How will they build the Spyder RS, beyond the summer shutdown, if the "ordinary" Spyder has finished production now, and electrification is due for the platform from MY 23.5 onwards (i.e. vehicles built after the plant re-opens, post shutdown)?
Are they going to maintain a line for the GT4RS and Spyder RS on their own?
They'll possibly use Osnabrück rather than Stuttgart. It's tooled up for Boxsters and Caymans. Are they going to maintain a line for the GT4RS and Spyder RS on their own?
My friendly OPC sales guy who sold me a new GT4 recently has confirmed in an email that he has ‘registered my interest’ in buying a Spyder RS.
I’m not a gambling man however I would be willing to bet my family business that has been passed down through 3 generations that I never hear another word from him about the Spyder RS.

Haha.. Brilliant, but you know of course that by the law of sod you will receive that call now.I’m not a gambling man however I would be willing to bet my family business that has been passed down through 3 generations that I never hear another word from him about the Spyder RS.
I'm not sure everyone does want the Spyder RS? I think it's a confused model. Full track spec, but speed limited to 120 with the roof up and no manual option for back road fun for the old skool fans.
I agree with you about the lines of the regular GT4s and Spyders though, they're lovely.

The verdict on the Spyder RS is lynch-pinned on how it rides on UK roads.
Porsche have stated that is it softer riding, as would be expected of a roadster - if that really works as advertised, then it will be vaulted to the top of the pile in terms of desirability, as its base will be broadened.
Nice riding, small, 500hp, sound, open top.
Don't personally think 120mph 'roof on limit' is really an issue on the road, even when you're on your own, and then for occasional use on track on a sunny day, take the roof.
I would view it as a miniature Carrera GT lite - but it is missing crucial aspect.... the manual gearbox... I still believe Porsche might address this in a final final model.
I have a soft spot for the Spyder - would love to have one for high days in my retirement garage, one specced like that Rubystar neo one above would be ideal. Personally think WP takes it too far.

Obviously 120mph on the road is only an issue for Euro hoons, T, but on a damp day it could be annoying. Same for track use. I think it's a very limited market in the UK for this car - it's very much for the odd high day and holiday IMHO. It's great that it's been made and there is the choice though.I think the issue with the roof is the engine intake - it takes up all the room for a proper mechanical roof to fold in to.

They've said that this is the final Boxster model, and I can't see them adding a manual option to the RS, so it is what it is.The final final run-out is looking like it'll be a 718R if it gets produced, and that will be Cayman only according to rumours.

Manual would actually make far more sense in a 'Spyder R' though.

Whatever they say, is the truth in the moment they say it, not beyond, lol, also large enough demand is there.

So true, and I agree, but it would have to have the stupid roof. Not sure they'd release two models with it given its limitations?Manual would actually make far more sense in a 'Spyder R' though.

But if you look at the 987 Spyder, particularly in the American market the manual is worth 10% more than the PDK, and that in the land of the Auto.
Hence I'm surprised that P went for PDK unless the R will be manual ?
Can anybody think of a good reason why P would not manufacture 500 each of 718 and 718 Spyder R's ??? Unless they were worried about taking away some of the special-ness for the existing 718RS and 718RS Spyder owners ??
And if they are, would they tell us now ??
Actually they will make 718 each and they will be priced at retail $350k ... a cool half a $billion ? And the OPC overs will be $500k + ???
The last of the Porsche petrol car porn ... unless you are into Classics
