Whats everyones opinion on the Porsche warranty.....is it something that people look for in a 2nd hand Cayman R?
The warranty on mine runs out in May, but I cant decide whether there is any value in renewing it (I've got my name down for the GT4), particularly if it doesnt make much difference to its 2nd hand value.
Personally, it would (and did) entirely depend on the proposition as a whole Eg price, spec, history, mileage etc.The warranty on mine runs out in May, but I cant decide whether there is any value in renewing it (I've got my name down for the GT4), particularly if it doesnt make much difference to its 2nd hand value.
I was prepared to go up to £45k for exactly the right car but would have wanted Porsche warranty at that price range....if I was buying private I wouldn't expect a car to come with Porsche warranty but would expect the car to be of a standard to be able to get the car warranted Eg N spec tyres etc etc....
I was lucky to find a car that had been bought from an OPC in March 2014 so it has warranty till March 2016.....

Mine does have nearly new tyres (correctly provided/fitted by porsche), full porsche service history (its about to have its major service) and still under Porsche warranty.
I just cant guage if the extended warranty adds much, if anything to its 2nd hand value....
Offer it as is, and if it's raised as an issue offer to get the car warranteed as part of the deal? If I was a seller, I wouldn't lose a sale over £850......you never know when another buyer will come along....I just cant guage if the extended warranty adds much, if anything to its 2nd hand value....
£37.5k manual Peridot car. No PCM, PSE or Chrono that I can see........

Buckets, PSE, rear parkers... What more could you want? Though it'll cost you another £2k to get OPC warranty if you so desire!
That car was £39,995 privately a week ago, looks like it on SOR or the dealer snapped it up and added a £5k premium.....http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Really haha.
Thanks for sharing that knowledge mate.
No problem! Thanks for sharing that knowledge mate.
I bought my car two months ago after trawling the classifieds for 3-4 months........I was told that there were high spec cars out there.........but two months on and not seen one I would have bought over mine.
Maybe the GT4 will crowbar a few owners out of their R's this Spring/Summer.....

Hopefully. I'm trying not to rush into this purchase and trying to wait for one with the perfect spec for me.
I'm surprised at how many PDK vehicles there are, would have thought 90% of them would have been manual!
What's usually unpopular when cars are bought new, then becomes rare and then suddenly everyone wants!I'm surprised at how many PDK vehicles there are, would have thought 90% of them would have been manual!
It happens with colours too. A certain colour may only be ordered by a few people, then a few years later buyers now decide that they now like it as there aren't many in that colour...........

I seeeee...... Manual all the way in my opinion, even though I know that PDK box is awesome.
Does anyone know sales figures for these cars? How many were sold in total, how many were manual, how many had certain options etc? Are those figures available to the public? I know they are for some other manufacturers...
When looking at a specific car, it would be extremely helpful to know how many were also sold in that coloud/spec etc?
Anyone know? Or can point me in the right direction?
Also, what about the original price breakdown per option? Is that available? Would be good to know what each listed option on each car would have cost to spec originally...
Cheers
Not sure that information is out there........I'm guessing at around 250 UK cars, of which circa 100 are manual from memory......high spec cars were still £60k+ but at the time OPC's couldn't shift the cars so they discounted the later cars quite heavily to get rid of them I believe....as mentioned, what wasn't so popular then, is now Does anyone know sales figures for these cars? Seems to be the case, that manual owners are holding on to them for longer. And that PDK owners are shifting them on for then next best gadget..
Looks like it could be hard to find what I want, if that ever happens.
My experience of buying an R, is that my perfect spec isn't out there or if it is, it would be more than I wanted to pay. You could literally wait years for the exact spec to come along and when it does, it might be too expensive or have too many miles, or be in poor condition etc etc.Looks like it could be hard to find what I want, if that ever happens.
Make a list of what you absolutely must have and work backwards. I really wanted black spyder wheels, buckets, PSE & PCM.....it's actually surprising how few cars came without PCM! A lot of people didn't/don't want it or need it, but it was a must for me. Even more so over Manual/PDK......wasn't bothered about that really!

Cheers chaps, some very helpful information and points in here.
I MUST have:
Buckets
Silver Spyder wheels
PSE
Manual box
The WOULD LIKES:
PCM
Audio Interface
BOSE
SS (Only just aware this was an option but it's good you can fit it afterwards)
Xenons (aware this is now very rare)
Ideal colours:
Meteor Grey
Blue
White
Did you miss the grey manual car with silver wheels that was sold by Cameron recently? The new owner posted a few pages back!I MUST have:

Blue is pretty rare, think two owners posted up on this thread, ShaunRS was one from memory?

I spent three months or so tracking cars before I bought - there are always manual cars out there.
Of the 30 cars over that time 13 were manual and 17 PDK - funnily enough there are 6 for sale with Porsche at the moment - 3 manual, 3 PDK and two of the manual cars don't have buckets..
For some reason we seem to be moving into a myth that manual cars are hard to get and never for sale.... Which isn't the case, they've always been out there.
It's the people with manuals that are saying this Of the 30 cars over that time 13 were manual and 17 PDK - funnily enough there are 6 for sale with Porsche at the moment - 3 manual, 3 PDK and two of the manual cars don't have buckets..

This OPC seem to be pretty ambitious with their pricing;
