The UI of the one I was looking at uses Andoid 13 which came out late 2022. Do you know what version the one you had was?
I'd prefer something like a nice Sony unit, but I haven't been able to find any facia which would make one look suitably factory. If I could, I might be more tempted. I just hate the look of aftermarket radios, so illogical as it may be, if I can't make it look factory then I wont both. DAB doesn't overly bother me. Normally the sound of the car is what I'm enjoying, but I'd like to be able to put routes onto a screen when I'm on road trips and be able to use the phone without sending numbers to the ancient CDR30 unit so it knows who's calling. Music streaming for the slow bits of drive would be nice too.
Mine was android 13 but Xtrons overlay their own UI onto it. That's part of the reason it feels a bit janky (Imo), it has 'layers' of UI depending on what gestures you're using. However one you're into android auto mode it's using that UI and the experience is very slick and integrated.I'd prefer something like a nice Sony unit, but I haven't been able to find any facia which would make one look suitably factory. This is my Sony unit with the facia surround. To me it's fine but I appreciate in an R it may not have the aesthetic finesse you're after. I think a black surround could also blend in better with a black double din stereo though and look quite OEM and slick.
The slight 'lip' at the bottom of the fascia surround has been fixed by slightly relocating the stereo in the cage.
Morning All, I was lucky enough to buy the Collecting Cars Cayman R, collected last night and drove back from Sheffield to Devon. Very impressed so far with the car, great condition, and a helpful seller to buy from. Next plans are a service at my Porsche independent and then hopefully a track day or two. Not many photos yet, obligatory forecourt shot on the way home. Hope to meet up at some stage on the road or on track!

Sad to say that my Cayman R sold earlier this week (silver one at Williams Crawford) it was a brilliant little car but my dodgy left knee meant it just wasn’t getting used enough. No idea what will or could replace it if anything.
If the new owner is on here, have fun, she’s a good ‘un.
I’ve enjoyed reading and contributing to this thread over the years and wish all of you the best. If my knee ever gets better then I may be back.
Sorry to hear that Rich,If the new owner is on here, have fun, she’s a good ‘un.

I hope you can find something a bit easier on the knee while you get sorted out. I've got a bit of a yen for a V8... F-Type SVR anyone?
I've recently had my dodgy hip (too much sport) replaced. It took less than an hour, recovery was swift and the difference is amazing. I hear that the knee options are also highly advanced now too, so hopefully we'll see you back here before too long!
Cheers,
Jon
Hi all, my PDK R is approaching its 12 year service. I’m getting conflicting information of what is actually required in relation to the PDK element of the service. Is the PDK oil filter required to be changed? My local OPC say it isn’t whereas a couple of Indy’s say it is. I understand it’s part of the Sump on this generation of cars.
Can anyone advise if they have a PDK if they had it changed or not. Don’t want to waste my cash but equally don’t want to miss it getting done if it needs it,
Cheers in advance

Yes I will get it done, not sure why OPC don’t include it and why they say it doesn’t need doing. If I hadn’t got a quote from my local Indie I wouldn’t have been aware it was an option.
Same as they don't include air filter or drive belt on major service. It does make you wonder!!!Having had next to no use last year (renovating a house yourself eats time like nothing else), I wanted to get the car ready for (hopefully) some proper use this summer. Rear tyres were past their best and I was never happy with the last refurb the wheels had so I decided another refurb and some fresh tyres all round. MPS4S has been somewhat of a default tyre choice for many for years now but more recent reviews have suggested that they have now been beaten by the Continental Sport Contact 7. One way to find out I guess....
Car high as the front end was jacked up when I took this.

Thinking about making this very switch myself. Steering precision, feedback, wet (hugely) & dry grip levels are allegedly all improved over the PS4S. Interested in how they perform on your R...Car high as the front end was jacked up when I took this.

I couldn't get N rated for my 991.2 GT3RS or I would also have given them a try.
Strangely there are two N rated rear options but no N rated front ... clearly Continental are trying so it will be interesting to see how you get on with them
A lot of them are N rated because they get certified on the front of more modern models, but the rears are bigger still. So they're not tested on the car or even the axle you're putting them on. I think N rating on anything out of Porsche warranty is a bit of a scam tbh. On my Cayman it limits you to decade old tyre tech. I've got new Bridgestone Potenza Sports on it (2023 design) as some of the only UHP tyres available in correct sizing and I'm very happy with them.

Would have also been my choice if mine was out of warranty. Let us know how you get on!Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
