Nil discount as the dealer only had one allocated.
"Enthusiast spec" = Sports buckets needed! They are fantastic...

Yeah it's a shame more bits were
not bolted on but apart from the lack of a proper Aerokit it does fit the GTS profile and the true R replacement will probably still have ceramics and buckets as options.

As nice as the GTS looks those spy shots of the run-out cayman mean heart has been stolen by another woman with bigger assets.
Buckets were standard in the R and Spyder, but the car got slated for costing more buy having less, when it did infact have more !!!

jurno's are st these days, every car review is such bks it pains me to watch them

Lol true , I just like reviews to be correct, these people are paid to do this, it's not a hobby.
And paid well I might add and get to drive all these cars inc the p1 and la Ferrari so I expect them to be at least 50% correct.

I think this demonstrates how flexible the Cayman is. It can be a brilliant 'weekend toy' with loads of power, Sport+, PASM, Ceramic brakes, bucket seats .. awesome fun
But it can also be a very comfortable everyday drive. The cabin is luxurious with all the equipment needed for enjoyable journeys. Put in the PDK, PCM and cruise control and no distance is too far

Mine's the more boring style - an everyday commuter with lots of comforts and convenience. Still has the toys to have fun on the weekend though smile

That car did not have PASM hence why they are raving about the sports chassis and passive damper set up which Porsche started back fitting on the Spyder, then the R, then 6 months after the 981 Boxster they offered passive dampers.
When I went to my OPC they said they have never sold such a car, very few spec sports chassis.

So notI possible to ever test drive a sports chassis car, now to give the GTS press cars a better review they stuck he sports chassis option on it, PCCB and buckets and now all the jurno say the GTS is a sharper car lol

It's bull st.

What did you think of the ride in mine?

For what I bought the car for I am happy with non sports suspension.

Frankly, I don't even want it in my S.

You have to remember I was coming from a 996gt3 and like hard core cars.

The R will be too hard for some as would the sports 981 chassis.

I keep thinking it would be cool to own a Bentley and have some luxury for a bit :-)
If I want comfort then do it right :-)

I drive the R too fast, it makes you do it.

The new Cayman is a stunning car I am sure the chassis is far better than the 987.2

Driving a 981 back to back with the R though the R just feels more driver focused and fun.

Wait until you get little demons, the back seats of a Continental GT are just right for booster seats...

Finally got my build slot here in the states. Got a commission number, "September" delivery so some fun before all the snow. 4% discount in writing. http://www.porsche-code.com/PFF2TL38

Still wish we could get the carbon buckets in the US, as I would've had them to shave 45lbs (20kg). Yes, PDK. I want my "fastest car" to be as fast as possible, especially for track days, and the rapid shifts of the PDK I've found enhances that feeling (took four test drives to decide). A decade from now I may pick up a 3-or-4-year old Mark VII GTI Performance Pack as a daily driver, and that'll have the Manuel, as it'll be much more fun to extract every ounce out of a slower car (as it is in my MX-5).

My brother is thinking of ordering a GTS.
He's unsure about the sports suspension, as though autocar and evo claim it improves handling and steering feel, he's worried it
might make it too firm a ride.
Any ideas on this?

PASM in Sport Plus is considerably worse in terms of comfort than the Sport Suspension. PASM in Sport is sliiiighly less comfortable than the Sport Suspension. The SS is firmer than PASM in the normal/comfort setting, but that's it. Can you deal with a 3/4 series with the M Sport Suspension? If so, you can deal with the Porsche SS.

Here's something for you: My GTS with Sport Suspension will be hands down the most comfortable car I've ever owned, without question. Granted, that's coming from an MX-5, Lancer Evolution VIII MR, Mitsubishi Eclipse and Ford-F150, but the point remains.

Sounds like you have made a decent comparison of PASM and SS. What convinced you to go SS?

It is odd no one was ordering it for 2 years, and reviews state only for track day kings.

Now porsche press fleet have it and people are ordering it.

Strange what comes around, I wonder if pec will now get a car with SS in stock for punters.

I'm assuming (correctly or not?) that a 981 on sports chassis would feel the same as the 987 CR / Spyder?

Bigger wheels aside, although I'd have thought the engineers would have taken that into consideration.

I suspect the 981 body shell is a bit stiffer?

I think it depends on what you drive beforehand. Back to back with the Spyder my 981 Cayman S felt like a limousine. After a week in the BMW it feels like a Porsche again. I bought mine to use a bit more than just as a weekend toy and in that role the standard suspension is OK even on big wheels. With a racier spec I can see why some people would prefer a more hardcore set up though.

The 20" wheels use the same 35 series rubber as our 19" 987.2 wheels

And hence why in a manual even with the same gearing you can do 10% more max speed in any gear plus the higher rev range. ( hard to knock this into some people's heads though)

So yes I would say the SS should feel the same because even on 20". You are running the same rubber between wheel and road.

Spec 19" and the SS would feel softer in a 981. Due to 40 series rubber.

If you can get over the steering feel which you soon would a 981 with SS is going to be faster round a lap than a R.
Just to me the steering is a step to far and the gearing/ wheel combo a shade to long.
PDK ratios are spot on though, so for speed 981, PCCB, SS, PSE and buckets would be a fast car for sure.
