Congrats on the new arrival smile

To the point of SS (X73). I wonder whether the guys on this thread are really a true reflection of Porsche's idea of a cross section of potential buyers of the CGTS and BGTS given that many of us have gone for the no cost (cheeky bds) option of no PASM! Even TG and Evo think the X73 is a bit too harsh for UK roads. Personally I can't imagine it driving or looking better. I did drive a Boxster S and thought it excellent on PASM but X73 just gives that extra feel and predictability... wonderful!

Maybe we are the ones that Porche should consult going forward bowtie

Arse, think my BGTS order just got £2k more expensive hehe

I'm doing my silverstone freebie today and have just sat in a Cayman GTS with the sports bucket seats and they're fab. I had automatically discounted them thinking they were like the hardcore tight ones in a GT3 but they're totally not! Very comfy and soft, much likey smile

Now the research begins on best cleaning/protection products to keep it in perfect condition. What is everyone else using for snow foam and protection?

Is paying for the Swiss wax protection worth it?
I would say no - don't pay for Swiss Wax or whatever from the dealership. Instead take that money and get a proper new car protection detail from a proper outfit. I took mine to KDS Detailing - guys did a great job for me. I also had the G Techniq Crystal Serum added.

It came back looking like this...

Some people have a clear wrap put on the front if their cars.

Other than that I've recently purchased some more microfibres, new wheel woolies, new wash mitt and large drying towel.
I do use snow foam every now and again - some think its a waste of time and money and they are entitled to their opinion, just like i am to mine. I just need to get some new wheel cleaner and done.

Ditto. My Cayman also has a proper coating of Gtechnick on it by Paul of Shine-On detailing.

Same price as main dealer rubbish, applied by a pro over an entire day.

We did your Cayenne with it and 2 years later it still looked brilliant.

Has anyone used Paint Shield, to have the clear wrap applied to the car? As I am thinking about looking the car with them at the moment, as I had a friend have his done and its very impressive. I just need to get the car detailed beforehand.

Also can anyone recommend any detailers are around or near the Chelmsford (Essex) area?

If you are getting paintshield done at Peterborough you would be best off getting the car detailed there rather than travelling after you have had the detail carried out.
Paddy328 (Emerald Detail)on here has a very good reputation on the AM section, did both mine and he often works at Paintshield to do their customers cars prior to the protective film going on.

Found a detailer in Perth who can prep CGTS using the G techniq Crystal Serum and then clear protection on full bonnet, wings, front bumper and wing mirrors for £990. Is that price about right?

I can recommend PaintShield I had my Alpina B3 BiTurbo done there, I arranged with Tom (owner of Paintshield) to get the car detailed there before applying the film. The car was brand new so not to get stone chips on the front of the car whist diving down I covered the front with auto/detailing masking tape. I got a few funny looks driving down the A1!

Had a full front, bonnet wings, siles, and mirrors. The photo is after the Alpina had been detailed. The film is still great after 5 years!

They will try to provide you with a car that matches your own. However, it might have different wheels, brakes or suspension and, particularly, tyres. It's worth noting all of that - but particularly tyres as it may influence your future choices, or any mods you might want to make to your car.

Also try as many options as you can (or they will let you) around the track - PASM setting (if yours has it) , and traction control, Sports mode etc. It's easy to forget that while you're having fun.

Oddly you overtake on the right, not the left as usual on track days.

Oh and you'll be able to have a three course lunch and either a cooked breakfast or afternoon tea - very nice too.

Go straight to the figure of 8 and switch the PSM off...

I'm not sure they'll let you, but it's definitely a good idea.

Good fun, you really get to know the car. This was also my second time on the low friction surfaces which are always a hoot smile The new track (new as of a couple of years I think) is a nice addition to the original track.

1) if you're undecided about part of your spec e.g. PDK or manual etc, you can ask to try cars with them as a difference. I had a PDK Boxster and manual Boxster at my disposal all morning to change in/out of
2) if you're looking for a PDK with paddles, make sure you specify. I didn't and my PDK car ended up being one with a MF steering wheel and the horrible rocker buttons.
3) the freebie is only a half day, so might be worth booking another half day on the Warm Up driving course with one of your own cars to make the trip more worth while, means you get brekkie and lunch as well - lunch was fab btw
4) if you do book the extra half day, make sure you get your car on the low friction circuit and learn to drift the corners with everything switched off, it's a hoot. If you do it in their cars, apparently they're not allowed to turn off the PSM as too many cars end up on the grass so it's not as fun.
5) try this experiment: drive over the kick plate at starting at 15mph with no hands on the wheel of whatever car you're driving - never tried it in the Boxster, but in my GT3 we found that up to 23mph or so, the car actually catches the slide itself and you just have to take hold of the wheel and unwind the lock once maximum oversteer angle was reached, was hilarious!

Grrr...Sainsbury's car park ding and run this morning, after a week away kinda took the shine off having a good blast today. My heart sank big-time when the announcement came out over the tannoy asking the owner of 'my reg' to see customer services, and then when they told me someone had hit my car and driven off! frown! Went to take a look and couldn't see a thing though. Lucky for me there was a witness, said he heard the collision and that the car pinged the panel in (front driver side) before driving forward pinging it back out, and then drove off! He followed the Black Evoque and took down the plate no. - kind kid - Good bottle of wine in it for him !f they pay up. Light scratches in the pic above was all I could see after close inspection (gave the panels a light tug, and can't see how they might have 'popped' in and out, but I'm no expert. Will obviously be getting it checked out properly. Insurance (Sainsbury's funnily) said that with a witness it's more than likely their insurance will pay up as opposed to contest it. Inclined to visit Porsche body shop first (anyone know which one Guildford uses), but insurer insists their recommended ones just as good.. annoyingly they're resurfacing the road I live on this week, so car will stay in the garage until next weekend. I try to be so careful when using the Supermarket car parks, time to switch to Ocado...<rant over>
