I found the steering of the 718 better than the 981, felt sharper and had more feel. But blasting through the twisty lanes I didn't find it smooth driving, left more on an off, with some lag making it like that. Not impressed with the throttle response.
I actually found the steering less involving on the Cayman I borrowed. Maybe something to do with that car having standard suspension, and my 981s having PASM.
The car B 718 S i had didnt have PASM, my BGTS has X73. Over it was a numb driving experience........

Taking my Spyder in to have something adjusted under warranty in a few weeks. They said 'do you mind a two-seater loan car?' Odd question given what I'll be dropping off but anyway. Really hope it's a 718 as am desperate to try one after all this back and forth. May take day off and just drive the **** out of it...

If you had more than one parking place, I would say any usable classic porsche is better -and cheaper- than a constrained modern. (Making sure that there is another german, handling day to day duties without any hassle! biggrin)

Sounds like an old school hot hatch in the video; nothing wrong with that - in an old school hot hatch. I'm sure as others here have said, it will have great appeal to all those who haven't owned its predecessor. The chassis is amazing, no doubt about that

Given how many cars get sold on PCP these days there are probably quite a few owners of previous gen Caysters who'll be getting 718's rather than pay the "final rental" on their current PCP deal. Despite preferring the old car! That's the joy of PCP....you are pretty much forced to change cars.

Forced?? It's far from unusual for those happy with their PCP'd car to finance the final balloon amount at the bank or similar provider, and carry on paying a monthly amount, rather than changing car.

If I was in a 981 and didn't want to move to a 718 at the end of the PCP term, then I'd do that too. smile

He restores a bit of excitement to the Boxster for those unsure of buying a 718. It was definitely interesting to hear from someone unfamiliar with the 6-pot. If it's speed and feel the buyer is after then I'm sure the 718 will give them plenty. I absolutely detest the popping from the exhaust though, makes me cringe - so I have to disagree with him about MUST spec the Sports-exhaust.. or you're an "idiot". Really does sound sh..

That was a really entertaining review! smile

Those falsetto pops and cracks are quite bizarre ... I do wonder if it will begin to grate a bit

981 with PSE had the pops and backfires as well of course with a nice crack when changing up at high revs, some liked them others didn't, I quite enjoy them in the BGTS, I must admit.

Did he say the 718 rev matches in sport mode as well as sport plus? That sucks, if true.

Hmmmm - interesting. My Spyder doesn't rev match in sport, only sport plus. Helpful for learning to heel&toe whilst still having PSM on.

So a GTS does as well then? That's annoying. They should have put a specific button in as the reviewer says. I'd also add in a button for the pops and crackles in that case!

Not true. No rev matching in Sport in my CGTS with Sport Chrono. Rev matching only on Sport Plus.

I believe in a 718 there's no rev matching in Sport unless you spec Sport Chrono, then it adds to to both Sport and Sport Plus. This is a change from a 981.
