How hard is it to find a decent Cayman R??
Discussion
I have seen one white car with all that spec lol must have been over £70k retail
SS is short shift, imo a must have but an easy fit if it's missing.
the USB/iphone socket is in the arm rest.
Xenons seem mega rare on cars.
PCM is full nav and nice LCD screen, there is a £150 software update for it to make it current, I had mine done it's worth while.
as others have said a few R owners have names down on GT4's so cars will pop up in the next 12 months now and again, I know of 3 inc me who have an R and maybe will get a GT4.

If you get a GT4 and sell the R, how much of that spec list does yours have?SS is short shift, imo a must have but an easy fit if it's missing.

i could be tempted by a good green R to add to the fleet as they say.

Seems to be the case, that manual owners are holding on to them for longer. And that PDK owners are shifting them on for then next best gadget..
Looks like it could be hard to find what I want, if that ever happens.
My experience of buying an R, is that my perfect spec isn't out there or if it is, it would be more than I wanted to pay. You could literally wait years for the exact spec to come along and when it does, it might be too expensive or have too many miles, or be in poor condition etc etc.Looks like it could be hard to find what I want, if that ever happens.
Make a list of what you absolutely must have and work backwards. I really wanted black spyder wheels, buckets, PSE & PCM.....it's actually surprising how few cars came without PCM! A lot of people didn't/don't want it or need it, but it was a must for me. Even more so over Manual/PDK......wasn't bothered about that really!

As a side note, is there anywhere online that list what options were available on the Cayman R?
Cheers chaps, some very helpful information and points in here.
I MUST have:
Buckets
Silver Spyder wheels
PSE
Manual box
The WOULD LIKES:
PCM
Audio Interface
BOSE
SS (Only just aware this was an option but it's good you can fit it afterwards)
Xenons (aware this is now very rare)
Ideal colours:
Meteor Grey
Blue
White

Regarding production numbers, Porsche never released official numbers.
Both the Cayman R and Boxster Spyder were big flops when they were new because they were too expensive, which explains the rarity. People seem to agree that both sold less than 2000 examples. About 1000 went to the US market, it stands to reason that more Spyders than Caymans ended up overseas.
I for one would not be surprised if Porsche ends up selling more GT4s than Cayman R because the GT4 will be a substantially more extreme car and the market is ready for it now (supercar hype + low interest rates + classic Porsche-bubble).
... unlike back then, take a look at the comments:

in stark contrast to the comments on the GT4 up until now. People talking about chopping in their 991 GT3s for a GT4, GT4 being the only choice for manual, etc.

Blue is pretty rare, think two owners posted up on this thread, ShaunRS was one from memory?

I did see that. I was far too late anyway. Pretty much would have been perfect for me.Blue is pretty rare, think two owners posted up on this thread, ShaunRS was one from memory?
But I'm hoping to get one from Porsche with a full Porsche warranty.
I spent three months or so tracking cars before I bought - there are always manual cars out there.
Of the 30 cars over that time 13 were manual and 17 PDK - funnily enough there are 6 for sale with Porsche at the moment - 3 manual, 3 PDK and two of the manual cars don't have buckets..
For some reason we seem to be moving into a myth that manual cars are hard to get and never for sale.... Which isn't the case, they've always been out there.

It's the people with manuals that are saying this Of the 30 cars over that time 13 were manual and 17 PDK - funnily enough there are 6 for sale with Porsche at the moment - 3 manual, 3 PDK and two of the manual cars don't have buckets..

But of the manuals forsale, how many have a desirable spec - spyder wheels, buckets, PSE, SS, sports chrono, xenons, climate etc Of the 30 cars over that time 13 were manual and 17 PDK - funnily enough there are 6 for sale with Porsche at the moment - 3 manual, 3 PDK and two of the manual cars don't have buckets..

as you say you waited/looked for 3 months were none for sale straight away :-) you state 13 manual cars for sale over 3 months, how many were the spec below as a minimum out of the 13 ? and that list is a basic minimum, people seem to want more that that spec atm.Of the 30 cars over that time 13 were manual and 17 PDK - funnily enough there are 6 for sale with Porsche at the moment - 3 manual, 3 PDK and two of the manual cars don't have buckets..

Out of the 6 OPC cars only 1 is even close to the below, missing quite a lot of other stuff people want like Sports mode, SS and PCM ! it has PSE listed but has black non PSE tips, so that would need checking, but it seems it has PSE.
Manual
Spyder wheels
Buckets seats
PSE
AC
so yes while cars are out there, it's not easy to find nice speced cars people want to part money with to own, add PCM and sports mode to that small list and I think there are no cars for sale !

Good question, probably about the same amount as with PDK cars? One's with no buckets and Air-con lasted longer to sell but I didn't get into that level of detail on everything else. There's some minimally specced cars out there that's for sure - I missed out on Xenons for mine but it had everything else. I realised the reason why I hadn't seen the perfect spec was that there's only 200 or so cars in total - you can waste a lifetime looking for the perfect one.
Which obviously explains why I'm not married to Winona Ryder as well..

I can agree to that, except I wanted PDK not manual. I guess the point I'm making is that for manual or PDK, the cars are out there - but well specced cars are at a premium.. Can we agree on that? SO a few main nice things missing and a bunch of other would be nice options missing but not big main items unless you are more fussy.
PCM does now seem to be on peoples want list of late !
