Sport Design Steering Wheel on Gen 2 Cayman
Discussion
Hello folks,
Just wanted to know if anyone has retro-fitted a SD steering wheel to their Gen Cayman/Boxster 2009-11. I had one on my Black Edition so I know it's possible on a Gen 2 but my research so far tells that it only fits 987 Cayman/Boxsters 2011-12 and the 981(987 Black Edition was 2011).
The part number is 991 347 803 35 A34
Seen this but doesn't give specifics on what Caymans it fits: https://www.design911.co.uk/mobile/#part;id=126212
I'd lose the steering wheel multi-function capability but not too bothered by that.
Thanks

Funny you should post this for the past week I've been researching exactly the same thing, I have searched everywhere and unfortunately there are none for sale second hand so it would have to be new.
My local OPC quoted £1700 plus fitting for a non PDK Sports Design wheel including a new air bag as mine is the older triangular type so can't be used, its a lot of money for a steering wheel but I hate the one on my car so I'am really tempted to order one up, its a really nice wheel and will lift the look of the inside.
I've read somewhere that a additional stalk can be retro fitted to get back the controls of the multi function wheel.

i ve fitted quite a few to 2008-2010 911's so can't see that a Cayman should be any different,
I assume you have a round air bag car?
Because the sport design steering wheel became on option in 2010 thats why all porsche part info is for 2011 model year cars,
very few secondhand, i don't bother looking and just buy a new one at circa £650 with a bit of discount

Thanks. That sounds promising. Yes I have the circular airbag. Did you fit one to a car with multi-function buttons? I've read you can get a stork to keep that, I'm not that bothered if I lose it but just wondered. I assume you have a round air bag car?

i got my SD wheel from suncoast in US. i was fortunate that my sister was on holiday in US so brought it back for me. it was about £650 then sent it to Royal Steering Wheels to have it recovered in the 9002 grey/black alcantara (as used by Porsche) with a red alcantara top band and red stitching £140
my car was a 2010 gen 2 boxster with a round air bag so i just fitted it myself

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. Strange that the part numbers are different on the Suncoast website. I've come across Royal Steering Wheels and would consider doing the same. my car was a 2010 gen 2 boxster with a round air bag so i just fitted it myself

That is a beautiful car! I'm not usually a fan of decals and bright interiors but that looks amazing. this is the boxster i owned that i fitted the wheel on to ( i have nothing to do with this company or the sale of the car )
i recovered the lower sections of the dash in red alcantara. i also bought another set of 3lower dash sections to cover in the 9002 grey alcantara as they do on the GTS (just so i could chose) but after stripping the leather off the pannels i then sold the car so never finished those parts.
will have to sell off those 3 dash sections ad those would be nice in the grey alcantara

So I've got hold of second hand one for a reasonable price. Did yours have the multi-function buttons? Just wondering if there's anything I need to do when I switch it over in terms of the buttons. If any fault codes, etc come up. my car was a 2010 gen 2 boxster with a round air bag so i just fitted it myself
