I think the trade up depends on two things - how much you want/will enjoy the new car and also, what the depreciation will be. If you have the extra cash, I'm not sure you will lose much of it on a 430 so you might find it is good value. The dealer fees will be a cost of course.
As for the 599, I agree, the 612 horses are appealing. I think that if you are happy to change a mid engined car for a front engined one the 599 could make a lot of sense. It is faster and a bit more modern than the 430, but it is less agile and the front weighted bias of a 599 against a 430 will certainly change the feeling in the car.
Personally, I love mid engined cars for those special driving occasions. I have been sorely tempted by a front engined Ferrari V12 over the last few years though. Still, I have had big V12 Astons, which are not exactly the same thing, but wouldn't go back.

Quick query about the carbon seat option - do they sit lower down thant the standard recliners? I've not found one to sit in yet to find out?
I have the carbon seats on an F430. They are lower than standard seats but I'm not sure by how much. I'm 6 feet tall and there's loads of headroom for me. I can easily wear a skid lid in the car too.Edited by red_duke on Sunday 9th February 13:09
I don't know about lower, I assume they are as you have very little padding. I'm 6ft and can just about see the tops of the front wings on my 360.
I'd say Carbon seats are an essential and desirable option if you like that kind of thing, they are very supportive and not at all uncomfortable on long journeys as I was expecting. And you get a lot of feedback through them too.

I've always liked the 360 and I'm toying with the idea of getting one for the summer.I enquired about three over the weekend. The first dealer still hasn't got back to me, the second car turned out to have 12 owners in 14 years, although it is one of the cheapest around so fair enough, the third sounded better with the last owner owning it for 7 years, BUT said owner has not serviced the car since buying it in 2007!!!! WTF.The dealer said don't worry we will send to Ferrari for a service, I politely told them I wasn't interested. I wouldn't buy a Fiesta that hadn't been serviced for 7 years never mind a Ferrari.Think I need to up by budget.
One thing that is possible with a car is that the service book has not been completed / stamped, sometimes you will find the car has been serviced etc but no record of such.
For many reasons paperwork can and does get lost, thats not to say it does not effect value as it clearly does.
without starting world war 3, unless the car has high mileage and has been used everyday its unlikely the thing wouldnt need maintainance of some description (like the slow down light) in 7 years unless has been kept in a collection or just got out for the MOT once a year.
That said I would avoid said car unless silly cheap.

IMHO the £38k car should be closer to£30k, given the results of the inspection it had last week......
Interesting , I was told at the weekend it was "in excellent condition".I expected better of these so called prestige car specialists, although nothing surprises me any more when it comes to car salesmen.I'm starting to see why you guys stick with just a handful of dealers. To be fair most of the independant Ferrari dealers are pretty good, only bad one that comes to mind recently is Verdi, the guys that deal in supposed supercars as a whole appear to be the issue.
Most of the good guys are enthusiasts that happen to sell ferraris for a living, and most wouldn't last long without the support of the end user and these forums.

This sort of description really annoys me. It leads to serious buyers wasting their time viewing cars, which are totally unsuitable. The service history on this car is excellent, however it's had a terrible front end respray. PM me for the rest...it's a long list. Cheap for a reason, but not cheap enough IMHO. nickson said:
Tbh the running costs mentioned above dont worry me one bit! I have had cars worth a tenth of the price of a 360 with similar running costs lol.
I'm nowhere near able to consider buying any Ferrari (one day though... so just browsing) but they don't seem too bad. Not a million miles away from what I used to be semi-regularly spending on an Alfa GTV V6.From a few years of researching this forum and two and a half of ownership it's not the known costs that hurt but the unknown.
I have been fortunate that I have had annual service costs of £600 ish and belt service of around £1500 on a 355 and £700 from memory on the 360, pads are normal price from eurospares as are discs etc, ball joints a bit more at £250 a corner, when you have a belt service you will inevitably need tensioners x2 at £125 ish.
It's when the roof hydraulics go pear shaped, or the manifolds, or the exhaust ecu box, or the F1 pump that things could get a bit naughty .....
Just go in with your eyes open and have access to a reserve fund.

Of to look at these three tomorrow

Question, having never spent this much on a car before what kind of scope is there for price negotiation? I'm more concerned with buying a good car from a reputation and warranty but curious what experiences people have.
