New 458 Speciale

I think it's starting to get hard to sell these cars. The basic 458 is so good that getting someone to fork out another 80k for what amounts to marginal incremental road performance is going to be a hard job for Ferrari
You also have the new cars coming out imminently from Mclaren and Lamborghini which are probably going to be better on paper than the Ferrari (this is another point that I'm sure Ferrari could have made their car faster but they can't risk it looking better than their flagship F12)
IMO Ferrari should have made this a limited edition (numbered) and made it look like a 458GT2
That would have sold like hot cakes
Agreed, along with the now discontinued 12C in its current form will out run the flag ship F12, This should have been a ltd run....Bit more tech from the F1 guys like the Scud....badged GTO and 300k....sorted....As it is it will just be playing catch up....You also have the new cars coming out imminently from Mclaren and Lamborghini which are probably going to be better on paper than the Ferrari (this is another point that I'm sure Ferrari could have made their car faster but they can't risk it looking better than their flagship F12)

Well IMHO, Autocar seems to disagree with you....
mmmm interesting.....I am informed that the new 12C-X will make this look like......... or maybe on the Mclaren life rubbishing Porsche ?
Or on the PH suprecar forum on a Ferrari thread bigging up Mclaren ?
f&%^k it ... its all so confusing !
The Speciale is only £30k more than an Italia. If you take into account the Italia options that are standard such as shields, LED steering wheel, forged alloys, etc the difference is even less.
Autocar, EVO, CAR, MSN, Car and Track all give it 5*. All say it is better than an Italia. Most even go as far to say it is the best Ferrari ever.
With the new 458 replacement coming out at the end of 2015 there are going to be only around 160 to 200 Specials max in the UK compared with nearly 500 currently, and still growing by the end of 458 production, Italias. So as the last and probably the best ever V8 NA Ferrari they will always be valuable and sought after. This should keep their value high compared with normal 458s. It happened with CS and also the Scud compared with the standard versions so there is no reason it should not happen with the Speciale. In fact I would suggest that the difference between a Speciale and an Italia is far greater than that between a 360 and a CS and a 430 and a Scud which should help even more in its future value.

The 430 Scud, had massive input from the F1 department, MS on the e-diff and KR on the Suspension setting in addition to the head of V8 F1 engines...I am not aware of any such input on the 458SP. by dint, the 458SP is a lot closer to the 458 than the SCUD was to the 430....
I well recall LM on the Scud, It was a stand alone car, They came very close to giving it a GT0 badge...
I had 2 x 360CS at 137k and 142k...I do not see any at this or close to these prices...I had a Scud it was 187k....again.....
Car mag, are on the money on this one.
IMHO.....

F1 suspension engineering has little cross over to road cars. MS and KR are not engineers.
All that happens in reality is that the suspension engineering team do their work and the F1 drivers rag it around for the cameras and the marketing department and give the engineers their opinion.
KR is to auto motive engineering as he to Carlsberg. He uses the product, knows how to make the best of it, but does not know much about the science involved.
Stop drinking the Ferrari Koolaid.

Well that's hard to say to be fair whether this car is any more or less different to the 458 as the scud/430 or CS/360 without some much more detailed engineering knowledge of the cars involved. However, the recent history of Ferrari lightweight editions have proven to be very good cars indeed to drive and certainly a big step up compared to the standard version and there is nothing at all to suggest that the speciale will be any different. Can you order the speciale without the stripe ? I not sure they will sell any at all if you cant
Yes - it's a cost option. I went to the factory a couple if weeks ago and there were a number if Speciales on the production line with and without stripes. Even saw an all black car, Matt carbon detailing and full sabia leather interior same as an Italia; so 'you pays your money: you makes your choice!'
