testarossa thread

BTW, has anyone noticed that literally overnight most of the testarossa's for sale on the UK market have gone! At present there are only two cars actually for sale on pistonheads. The others are "auctions" only. Only three on autotrader and one is £99k (which looks great value IMHO) and the other a collectors item at £200k. Is the market moving toward that supply and demand phase where prices move and move quickly?
512M are all £120k and most 512TRs are £100-£110k.
I was with a very high end Ferrari restorer earlier today and a number of his customers/clients where at the workshop. I spoke with a couple these guys and all decided the 365/512 BB was "next" to make that big jump. These cars were £79,995 for a good one for a long time..........now £200-250k. Indeed one of the guys I was speaking to has just bought a clean example and is throwing a packet at getting it to absolute prize winning condition with a clear view that they will continue to move north of those figures. And why not, just look at the price of Dinos, the 365/512BB was the flagship!
My point, well, a number of these guys, who own very significant cars, thought that now was the time to snap up the Rossa because its next to jump.
The argument around this jump in price has always centred around its production numbers but.......there are far fewer RHD testarossa's than there are F40s, indeed less than a third as many! And NOTHING that Ferrari made afterwards touches the testarossa for pure drama and presence. My prediction, based on the 5-10 year example of the 365 boxer et al.....within 10 years a RHD sub 30k mile, good condition testarossa £130k absolute minimum. Low mile single mirror early RHDcars £200k.
Ahhhhhh but how about the crash of the 80s? Difference now....the cars are being bought with our money not the banks, it's a free market and we decide what are investments are worth and what we sell them for.
I just spent an enlightened afternoon with people who removed their money from banks put it into Ferrari's and in some cases have nearly tripled their outlay in 24 months and their still not selling because they simply don't need to and they are deciding what the car "would" go for if they "let it go". Interesting times!
What is going to happen to the bubble when one person panics and many follow suit?512M are all £120k and most 512TRs are £100-£110k.

That said I cannot find any decent 512trs anywhere... Is the Internet the wrong place to look, or are these card really going to dry up like GT3s have done!

If one person panics and its a 512 TR then you'd snap it up! And remember the bubble isn't built on borrowed money anymore, we won't see a rise go on indefinitely but it should peak and hold/level. Not my idea, just based on evidence of every single Ferrari which has done this so far. That said I cannot find any decent 512trs anywhere... I believe the Testarossa series of cars have been undervalued for sometime.
The reason often quoted is the relatively high production numbers of the series but when you drill down to market specific figures such as the U.K with it relatively low numbers it is not hard to see why U.K cars are experiencing a surge.
Couple that with U.K cars being exported to other RHD markets such as Australia, the pool of quality U.K R.H.D cars remaining becomes even less and then supply and demand takes care of the rest.
The Testarossa was a ‘Poster Car’ and this must also have a bearing on desirability for those people who had the cars on their bedroom wall who can now live the dream!

True that! I have been approached on several occasions at shows by dealers who specifically wanted to buy my car and export direct to Australia. The "poster car" model is also an interesting one and that being that the group who had the poster are now at an age where they are possibly in a position to buy it and so demand goes up.The reason often quoted is the relatively high production numbers of the series but when you drill down to market specific figures such as the U.K with it relatively low numbers it is not hard to see why U.K cars are experiencing a surge.

The 512 TRs are such strong money now and are going up on a monthly basis, a quick check on Autotrader shows one at £125,000. I can only see prices going one way and in line with the countach to some extent, the Lambos are sitting firm at around the £175,000 and remember 10-12 years ago you could pick them up for circa £30k. It's all academic of course in that no matter what happens with prices, I would find it very hard to let mine go. Nothing else does it for me like the testarossa, although a low body countach S would look great parked next to it in the garage!!
2 currently for sale at Dealers:
http://www.amarisupercars.com/detail?vid=52116 -> was up for £75k in last months Octane magazine
http://www.dicklovett.co.uk/Dealers/Ferrari/Used-Car-Details/Ferrari-Testarossa-Rosso-1990-20200714.html
Prices are definately creaping up, and there have been less cars for sale recently than there has for the last few years.

Whilst out playing in the 2-11 today, came up behind a beautiful red Testarossa reg **** LOW, in Chipping Campden . Looked great from my low seating position and sooooooo wide .
Hi Dave - that was me!!! I was just touring round really as that was the first real drive I've had in it since I bought it. Had to breathe in a few times going through Chipping Camden centre.Your 2-11 looked epic in the rear view mirror! I'd love to have a look round one and compare it to my VX220, I'd imagine its like everything has been turned up to 11.

Perfect, as I was looking at a 512TR last year but never had the balls to take it further. Be great to meet up and check each other's cars out . Only down the road in Evesham. Just need a dry day.
Dave
My parents live in Evesham (on the Badsey side), I'm happy to meet up next time I'm over that way.Dave

Going back to what I was saying last week about the market and how prices were rising, Meridian in Lyndhurst had a 1990-1991 testarossa red with Crema, under 5000 miles up at £5 less than £100k and one week later.....sold!
I saw that a couple of weeks ago too, didnt realise it had sold! That must have been near the price of the 878 mile one that sold about 6 months ago. I think that went for a 6 figure sum.Gassing Station | Ferrari Classics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
