Really annoying on the cat side of things. I am sure Mr Exhaust can supply suitable cats.
Oh yea, I am waiting for larini to let me know eta of their cats, if it's still a few weeks away, I will head off to Mr exhaust so they can fabricate some pipes.

I really should wait but for the pass few days, it has been rear wheels off and have been trying to get the rear clamps off. Right side no problem but left, I did this with a long extension and a breaker bar.

Penetrating oil them to death. Not sure what your using but WD40 as used by many won't do much

I'd suggest you run the wire through the window first to make sure you get the result you want before taking it all apart
Cheers. I used the 3 in 1 penetrant spray similar to WD40, let the clamps soak for a couple of days and then tried but it broke off. There are a couple of similar clamps on the original muffler but both the studs on both clamps broke off as well. I am going to try and drill them out and I hope the whole screws are rusted so they are easy to drill off.

m4tti said:
If one of those studs has sheared off, you might as well go for shearing off the other one as your going to need to replace the clamp.. the gasket in between may be brittle and crack when you go to torque that back up, and need replacing.

That clamp is about £240 from eurospares so you may aswell get the upgraded hill version.

https://www.eurospares.co.uk/Lamborghini/Gallardo/...
Yea, I will have to break the other off as well and I am guessing it wont be difficult looking at the amount of rust it has. I will try and drill the bolts off but if not possible will go for the hills engineering ones. 240 for a clamp is madness. And Hills ones arent cheap either. Those donut gaskets are also over 50 a piece. Cheers for the headsup regarding the donuts breaking after closing the clamp. I didnt know that and I certainly dont want that to happen on the manifold side of the Cats.

Managed to salvage a couple of clamps from the old muffler. Drilled a broken bolt off one clamp. Was a piece of cake in the end. Took 20 minutes and no signs of struggle on the drill bit. Also, had two female parts of different clamps and I will use together with new nuts and bolts. Also two decent donut gaskets from the muffler as well. So saved a couple of hundred. The clamps are generally sturdy. Its the bolts that rust.

The Larinis are due to be delivered the week after next, same week i am due to drop her with RE performance. I am also thinking about selling off the larini and going for test pipes because thats where the best F1 sound is.

Finished flushing off the power steering fluid with 4L of Redline D4 ATF. The power steering is much better but can be a bit softer. I am judging from youtube videos where people turn the steering wheel effortlessly. When I am driving, i am so concentrated on the brakes, or lack thereof, that I completely forget about the steering.

The "rolling delay" has been completely abolished by the sprint booster. But the trade-off is that I have to put up with uneven idle where rpm can suddenly go up to 1500 for a sec randomly.

If you go for test pipes you’re going to need to find a MOT tester with an “emissions” car, or put the cats back before each MOT.

It will also be incredibly loud. My old Tuscan with decats.. was 130db. I might be a bit of an “aural” wimp, but after a while I started wearing one of those orange ear plugs in my right ear while driving.

That right hand gasket looks a bit flakey and brittle. See how it does back up. If you end up with an air leak, that’s when you start getting over furlong and the cats get hot and degrade…

Edited by m4tti on Saturday 7th October 19:51
Yea, I also thought it would be much louder but I got a bit confused with the bull rider video where he said that there wasn't much difference in volume when he changed from stock to test pipes. I am expecting the cold start to be much louder but it should return to same level as 200 cells? I was thinking of getting the decats now and then test the sport cats to check the difference and agree that i have swap the decats out at least yearly. Honestly, I dont want the car to sound obnoxiously loud. I got the x-pipe with resonators for the same reason. If its going to shatter my ears, I would rather keep the 200 cells. I had a G82 M4 with 200 cells and midpipe with MPE and that thing was disgustingly loud on startup. I only realised this when it was driven away having being sold smile

I am thinking of using the bad gaskets on the other end of the cats and better ones, if i can find another good one, on the manifold side. Or may buy the wire mesh type that are available on ebay. Definitely dont want any leaks.

where did you source the "sprint booster" remap from ?
hopefully avoiding pistonheads' naming and shaming rules, jb ???
I bought the device from racedom_uk on ebay. It shipped from Greece. £140 + £44 or so customs charge.

yeah, that's the one
all it does is apply full throttle when you have applied 75% throttle
bin it !
Nah man, I disagree smile
Without it, I pressed 20% throttle and then got half the response after 2 seconds.
Now, with sport mode, its instant response and in race, its like using launch control every time I tap the throttle. Makes it ideal for racing off red lights, not that I would do that.
But, I still have to check my clutch settings and if adjustments need to be done, I will test without sprint booster and if throttle is better, will get rid of it.
But for now, it has made the car extremely lively and i am getting enjoyment out of driving it.

Mine is a huge improvement as well, being e-Gear. In fact, its a transformational improvement.

So just removed the right side trim that hides the coolant reservoir and noticed this:

Is this some form of a bleed line for the e-gear or a connection with a missing hose? 🤔
Sorry if I am being ignorant.

Also, what the actual f***. The e-gear reservoir was not bolted secure and had a missing screw. I blame the last garage that had the car.

I’m sure that is the bleed value, it doesn’t seem that anything is missing apart from I assume is a dust cap?

Cheers. Thanks for confirming and for the pic. I will find the dust cap. I am a bit uneasy leaving it like that. smile

Yeah.. that doesn’t look right. Not mounted properly.
That bleed line nipple not being covered is probably fine, as it’s tucked away.
Yea man, I was furious when I saw it. The e-gear reserviour would have been jumping all around the place when engine started. Not good it was left unsecured. I managed to find a bolt and washer from my stash and fixed it there. Good thing the fluid level was fine.

Good thing it didn’t knock about and develop a leak.. no fluid.. no gears biggrin
Oh yea, smile Would not have been a cheap fix i assume. I have been watching the garage floor daily but so far no leaks. This reservoir does look a bit moist but doesnt look like anyting is leaking. I checked repeatedly but will still keep a look out.

Hello again mates,

I thought I will give feedback since I got the car back from RE. Ricky test drove the car when I went to drop it in. First thing he noticed was that the wheel alignment was completely off. Honestly I found it as well on my way to Swindon. I know I should have noticed it earlier.

The brakes he mentioned were characteristic of the car. I the days leading up to this, I have been slowly getting used to them. They have been working great at high speed but are horrible in slow moving traffic. Good thing they work at least. It may be that they need progressively more force as the car comes to a halt.

The steering had improved with the fluid change and has been considerably better with the wheel alignment. Another contributory factor they found was that the tyres are worn out, some unevenly so due to the lack of wheel alignment. The fronts are cracked as well. I am going to go for ps4s as they have a better reputation than p zeros I guess.

It was also reassuring that they did an inspection and no major issues were picked up, well apart from a minor steering rack leak. Going by the service history, it seems like it’s has been an intermittent issue since 2017. I need to get this sorted out.

By this Larini systems is driving me insane. They don’t give clear updates. The delivery of the cats has been pushed back. They said they will be shipped “imminently” which I don’t know what it means. Very vague and poor communication.

But very happy with RE and Ricky. Very reasonably priced work that they do and clear and upfront, no messing about. Will go back to them anything Lambo.

By the way, the yellow gallardo in their second last video is mine smile

RE do sound good from what I've read and seen.

Annoying that the cats are still not done. "Imminently" would be in the next couple of days but I suspect they are just using a long word to keep you waiting.
Yea, Ricky is great, the go to person for Gallardos/R8s.

Its third day now since they mentioned cats are due to be posted imminently. There goes the chance on me receiving them tomorrow and enjoying quality time with my car and installing them over the weekend. Guess I have to be patient.

To decat or not to decat, that is the question.

Cannot wait to install over the weekend. Should be fun. The larini cats are going to be here any minute now for the last couple of weeks.

So hopefully will be able to compare all three setups, oem, 200 cell and test pipes.

My rear tyres are at the legal limit and front ones are cracked. Such bad timing as I am broke now or would have got PS4Ss.

Would anyone recommend winter tyres, used for the time being as I will get proper tyres in summer. The winter ones are extremely cheap. Some used sottozeros, rear ones are 100 quid.

😀 I knew it was a bad idea but didn't know how bad. The rear tyres are twice the price of the fronts. I guess new good ones will transform the car.

what pipes are those?
They are made by cybox.co.uk
£500 all in.

Going to install these on Saturday and will feedback regarding fitment. The only rate limiting factor I am likely to face is getting the passenger side clamp next to the headers. RE did remove the old clamp and install another clamp I supplied them from the muffler. So it should not be difficult if I could get a tool on it. The wheel well was a no go for the top bolt. Maybe I can approach this from above.

Thank you both. Yes, thats what I will do. Just need them for a few months really, before I get proper performance tyres.

Another "mod" i wanted to do, initially to my M4, but now with the Gallardo as it would suit this car more.

Its the green sticker on the left of the number plate. Its not to steal their parking spaces but just for humour. But then I could be stopped by the police who may not have a sense of humour. Anyone tried that? or too childish?

I am not sure if they are a legal requirement or if its an offence to display them on a non-green car. But I think the risk would be that someone who really loves to hug trees may key my car? So I guess i have to drop the idea smile

So I installed the test pipes today. And what a nightmares it was. I started at 8am on the beautiful sunny day and finished up 7pm. I should have taken some pics but I was so busy running around the car, swearing, questioning my existence. Its no walk in the park.

Removing the clamps next to the headers was a pain. I had to get a socket extension and hammer for ten minutes each side after undoing the bolts. Had to use penetrating lube. But they eventually came off.

And don't get me started on the oxygen sensor cables. They were a convoluted mess. I almost lost it and had to stop myself from ripping the cable off.

Also, the driver side misfire tube was stuck and I have to dremel out the part of the cat it lies in. Cut it right off but took a while.

I had to loosen the frame rails and then couldn't figure out how to bolt it back. The shims were a nightmare to align so the long bolts from the wheel well could go in. Man what a chore that was.

It was a mess of wires in the engine bay thar needed cleaning up. I don't know if I have put everything together properly. I have to review my work tomorrow. 😩

Then it was dark and quiet and I was dreading the cold start. But it wasn't bad. I couldn't tell if it was the same or louder. I just pulled into the garage and turned it off. In that half minute or so, the smell was quite strong.

Cannot wait for tomorrow.
