They sit in the space where Google ads used to sit (at the bottom of forums). Google annoyed us with their demands so we took them off and added news links instead.

The space used is the same as before, but it looks strange at first, lets see how it settles in and we'll see if they are to stay.

Odd how the same space can look so much bigger with images instead of links' Time will tell if we get used to it. If not, we'll take a view I promise.

Paul
Dont like it at all, I find it extremely intrusive.

I rarely dip into the news articles, purely for the fact that my bookmark takes me straight to the forums but I have to say that I actually quite like it. Granted, the pics could do with being a fair bit smaller but there are some links there that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Haven't posted in ages but still read - long time member.

These have upset me so much that I wanted to come to website feedback and post a new topic and low and behold here we are.

Garlick - it is no excuse to say we have replaced one piece of unwanted balderdash with something else - it's still balderdash but on a far greater scale of horribleness.

THIS SITE WAS TED'S FOR PETROLHEADS (TVR's actually)

The core of pistonheads is for car nuts to have fun.

Now I know things have to be paid for but your publishing owners do alright and this is a step too far. It's brown, smelly and very very pathetically, blatently poohey.

Grow up, grow some and tell management that this type of marketing is wrong for this site and this demographic of users.

A human when it is conceived in the womb grows as it's first body part the arse (this is true) at this point the management/programmers were born as arses and have never moved on.

I don't get it. The ads are just for PH news items. They serve no purpose? They direct you to the site you're already enjoying.

I quite like them.

Is the grammar correct though?
Should it not be "you might like"?
I'll not have PH telling me what I may or may not like.

I fail to see the problem confused Being at the bottom means you don't need to go down that far if you don't want to, me I keep scrolling as a couple of interesting article were there that I wouldn't have read otherwise.

I think it looks fine as a single row. Is there a way to make them appear below the scroll on short posts? I don't really mind getting to them when scrolling to the bottom of a full page of comments, but they're a bit jarring (for work!) to have them at the bottom of short articles. At least if they only appear on full pages of comments I know not to scroll too far down and can hide them.

The title case caps on 'You May Like' make my subbing bits twinge. Otherwise I quite like it!

I have never seen something so 'hideous' and 'horrible' as these adds right at the bottom of the screen!! That's it for me..... I'm never using this site again as I can't cope with these small adverts at the bottom of the screen!!!!
I'm quoting myself because it was a joke (a st one). People... get a grip it's four small pictures at the bottom of the page!!

I don't like it.

I can live with it but I don't, I really don't like it.

I would prefer text based messages.

Agreed. It's non intrusive and offers additional content.

Fear of change, anybody!?

That said, if everyone's complaining so much, just go back to google ads and enjoy the revenue stream.

Sheesh!

This is just not cricket.
The pics do look distracting, if I want to look at PH News items I look at the main page and not in the forums.
If you want to go the whole "you may like" hog then why don´t re-activate the old P&P ?
There I found some topics that I "might/could like" and clicked them...8-P

You know you can view the same pie and piston threads by hitting the pie and piston link?

I like the idea.

Smaller pictures would be preferable though...they are a bit intrusive after scrolling down a page of small text!

I do feel sorry for the techies and Garlick, as whenever they change any part of the site, there is usually a long thread in Website Feedback, with most people complaining. It is good that they stick to their guns, as they do what's right. If they didn't change any part of the site, then it would still look like it did in 1998.

Does beg the question why change it then. Not broken, everyone happy, why fix?

Still getting the return to homepage thing and multiple posts on the back button though. But hey, bugs can wait, advertising comes first.

Then people would most likely complain the site was dated.

I don't see how spoiling the user experience with bigger and more obtrusive ads moves us forward? All it does is make more people install Adblocker.

I genuinely appreciate all the work that the PH guys put in and thoroughly enjoy my time here. I appreciate it must be paid for (using advertising) but earlier today I scrolled down and my entire screen was adverts.

Kind of detracts from the experience.

If you change the skin to Mobile Beta, then you won't get the ads at the bottom at the screen.

That's twice in two posts I've had the address not valid return to homepage screen now.

And again after the edit. It's really annoying.
