The ones that really annoy me are the closed questions.

There was a thread today (I forget which) which had a bus driver comment on how he couldn't pull out and was driving 'properly' as he had management on board. The next post went along the lines of... "Oh. So you drive differently when your boss is on board?"

What is the point of that, other than trying to impose superiority? A lot of people here do seem to have a superiority complex,

People always pick up on something - mostly not even something integral to the thread - and question it, as if the original statement is wrong.
Your right about that, noticed it a lot lately.

Is it wrong to be reading this on a 'mobile device' sat in front of the fire with a nice Olorosso?

I tend not to try not to get pulled into a pointless argument with the hand wringers, who inevitably turn up on most threads. It's sometimes hard to ignore them, but ignoring them is the best tactic.

I think throwing a discus at some of them would be very therapeutic. (I'm not picking up your spelling in a tosser way, the mental image of discus"ing" wrongdoers just made me smile).

Thought I bump this thread back up but since new year it's become even worse loads of threads have turned into a slanging match with a few members just look at the top gear thread. Im not sure that's it the weather making everyone grumpy but ffs it's like being back at school again. And it's not new members that are doing it, its the older members who don't know when to shut up and shout down to any new members if they dare to not agree with them so fking childish.

There have always been this kind of thread - what hasn't changed is the fantastic knowledge in the 1-5 barge thread (my favourite), the marque specific forums, the debate in the news section, the local threads. The list goes on and it gets broader. Everyone who services my cars and all the buyers of my mistaken purchases have come via Pistonheads, as well as many people I turn to advice.

PH gets better and better, but if you want to find fault and be offended there are more opportunities than ever, and more people to moan at.

But it's got worse this year so many threads get ruined by idiots. Yes there are some genuine knowledge and good threads but that is in the minority im afraid these days.

You don't need to read every thread, and when anything unreasonable is posted do PH a favour and use the alert the mods button (I'm only a PH poster but I can tell what's acceptable or not, and once reported non acceptable things seem to go very quickly).

If you don't like the debate, find another part of the site - I often find I'm not bothered by a thread in the lounge, but there is something going on in general gassing.

Basically you should buy a Mercedes w124 300-24. That will make you a better person.

I really enjoy the diversity of posts on this forum. I also enjoy the freedom of speech.

Looking at the TG thread, that has gone as the OP describes but I just skim over the bits that don't interest me.

When people don't agree with me, they call me all kinds of names but it is only an internet forum and it really is no big deal.

Equally, I get frustrated by some opinions as I may if I don't agree with the editorial policy of a newspaper but the fact that people can put their views forward unhindered is really liberating.

I think the mods do a good job, even though I did get a ban once and I'm still not sure what for.

I'm afraid that just like a good pub, you will get people who can disturb it, overall, PH is a great forum.

Well said. Just needs judicious application of personal filters. (Skimming)

I must admit I spend a lot of time engaging with this forum and now and then I'll get people accusing me of making something up or over analysing some of the detail and twisting the picture. Some of them would make good lawyers actually! This happened recently so rather than getting overly worked up and getting into a biatchh fight, I delete the thread from my view and move on. Some people get off on character assasinations and picking fights. That won't change, they want a reaction. Like children, if you don't react, they soon simmer down and get bored.
