Spelling mistakes and punctuality errors I can live with but abbreviations and acronyms I cant.

Im forever using google to try and find out what things mean when scouring the pistonhead forums.

The following quote made me create this thread:
"MIB is an option, but not a very good one"

Sorry but the men in black are doing fk all let alone 'a very good one'

Could the mods make a sticky of common abbreviations please.

Recently translated:
SWMBO - She who must be obeyed
PITA - Pain in the arse
WWYD - What would you do
MTFU - Man the fk up
AFAIK - As far as I know
IIRC - If I remember correctly
IM(h)O - In my (honest/humble) opinion
MIB - ?
OEM - Original ? Manufacturer
HTH - ?
ETA - estimated time of arrival/ edited to add
EFA - ?
ATR - 'at the races' is all im aware of - great site for tracking horses.

Im sure there will be many more and Im also sure im not the only person who strugles to translate.

MIB in the SP&L thread?
If so MIB = Motor Insurance Bureau.

Quite a common acronym in Insurance.

If it's posted on the "Knob" thread I think it means "Anti Pushing In Society".

It was coined by one of the posters on the thread to reference the act of stopping vehicles from overtaking well in advance of where a lane closure comes into force and also blocking people off that are completing a perfectly legal merge in turn.

After much searching, finally found it via Google:

Who you gonna call? APIS.
Having googled APIS, find there are several references. Could you be more specific please?
A light hearted and not very serious exclusive club, 'The Anti-Pushing-In Society.'

It's very few members all dislike the habit of drivers wizzing up the outside of a patiently waiting queue at a busy exit or a two lanes into one scenario, and then barging in at the end, thereby gaining ground in an underhand way. There are other similar situations.

Some call it 'Merge in turn', but this is a misnomer, it is simply selfish driving. ( As it is descibed by a higher power.)

Not an acronym/abbreviation - But there's something I've been meaning to ask ever since I joined PH,

What do people mean (usually people in the barge thread) when they describe a car as being 'Spanish?'

(No, the car wasn't a Seat Leon)

At a guess, it's a reference to...

He's from Barcelona, y'know.
