Hi Ted,
I love the layout of your site. It is easy to read and uncluttered compared to most of them, with minimum adverstising. But I wondered as some sites have I logged onto have a little picture/avitar under their login name. Now I have noticed some people did have this last year. Will this be implemented or will it require too much storage/bandwidth?

Although a few people have them it's not a feature that will remain. I prefer the uncluttered look without avatars, huge signatures etc.

This comes up from time to time and the general opinion of most folk on here is that the site is far better without it.

I agree entirely - the site is far better without signature or avatars (for the majority). Some signatures I've seen on other forums are ridiculous...and for those of us that like the "neutral" look of it (i.e. I read it at work) I really does promote me to view it!

Having been on other forums where people can 'abuse' their right to have a signature (by tha I mean a whole dissertation below their posts), I think PH is far better off without them.

I totally agree.

- Corrado VR6, cone air filter (now removed), ChipStar, gas-flowed throttle body, kick plates, Bosch windscreen wipers, PistonHeads stickers.
- Chimaera 500, rear speakers and CD-player, Leven bits, PistonHeads stickers.
- Dell Dimension 8100, P4 1.4Ghz, 640Mb RAM, several HDDs, CD-writer, DVD-writer, nVidia GeForce 4 graphics, can't be bothered listing the rest because it's painfully dull, just like people who have crap like this in their signatures.
- Bosch washing machine, currently unmodified but thinking of fitting braided hoses.
- Dog, mongrel, getting on a bit and a little smelly sometimes but I love him.

OK but this was about avatars/pics under your name, not signatures??

I think it's a great idea too. It adds some personalisation and helps you remember who people are.

Doesn't everyone like the BTAP/Safespeed logos etc. that some people have? I wish I had something .

Agreed. Can't help think the previous poster might like it to be a teenage chat room though - do adults have a problem with bothering to read/remembering peoples names? No, teenagers do.

Lets not dumb down/chav up PH please!

... agreed, another vote for the "no avatars" campaign, the current format is professional in it's appearance!!!

To be devils advocate here and to keep it in the automotive theme. Just as an idea without getting shot down , how about a manufacturer logo under your name?

Bet Tony would love the Lambo Bull or Bacardi ?

Exactly. You can put any pic you like (well, almost) in your profile. Problem solved.
PH is better off without those eye-hurting and often so not-funny avatars.

Just a side thought, it might be easier for the better heeled folk to pick fun at the poorer peoples cars?

Oh wait. They'd lie, wouldn't they?
