I tried to reply/quote the message below but the preview function gets it all quotation wrong and leaves it as one long message and ignores the quote within a quote. It also left off my original (followup wording) as well. I spent quite a while jiggling around with it until I gave up and posted 'as is' and was quite suprised when the message posted in the correct format. If you reply quoting this message and click preview you will understand what I mean.

Thanks WD*, have had a good look at the Rescue Trusts website and haven't ruled that option out, but my 10yr old daughter is pretty nervous around dogs initially and that's one of the things that makes me think a puppy is a better way to go she'd be able to watch it grow. I'm not sure how introducing a grown dog would go and that would be unfair on the dog to a degree as well. This is the main reason we settled on a bassett, not too big, reputation as a calm "peoples" dog etc. My choice would've been a Ridgeback or a Bloodhound (eugh!!! They Slobber daddy!!!)

I would rethink bassett hounds as a 'calm' dog - you would be better with something like a labrador. Poppy is 4 and is far too lively - she jumps, she barks at everything, and while not aggressive, she is too much to handle to be near children. I know of 3 other bassetts, and of them, one took till age 7 to calm down, one was grumpy because he was very poorly and the other is very timid.

Perhaps if you have it from a young puppy you can train it to be calmer but my inlaws have had poppy for 4 years and she is showing no sign of settling down - she was 9 months old when they got her.

Have you had dogs before? Bassett hound welfare does not like people to have a bassett as their first dog, as they do take a lot of attention. Bassetts are also not the type of dog to be left alone during the day - they need the company of humans so if the house is empty during the day a bassett is not the dog for you (although no dog should be left alone all day).

You say about wanting a puppy - bassett welfare do have puppies as well, but as they are a rescue place it is a case of seeing what they have.

Noooooooooooooooooo. The thread was taken from 'Getting a dog...' I put it at the top otherwise you would have thought WTF

Try quoting on any long thread that has quotes within quotes and it always fails on the preview function but NOT when actually posted.
Try quoting the 4th post down on this thread (vipers 8:23am) and then click preview. Oh, and taking the * off WD does not work either.

Well just tried another thread with quotes within quotes within quotes within quotes, and when you go the Preview, it all comes up inside the little boxes as it does when you post, so apart from my theory of you posting the reply at the top, which you say made no difference, absolutely no idea what is.

Anyway Monday morning, happy week to all our readers, and if you sus it out, do post, its annoying not knowing isnt it?
