Why can't we have a picture uploader on ph?

I'm not that clever when it comes to the puter. I can just about type up a half arsed sentence. On other forums i've used in the past there has been a picture uploader. Would it be a lot of hassle to install one on ph? All this hosting pictures on other sites seems a lot of hassle to me, I wouldn't have a clue how to do it.

One of the reasons it's "so easy" on other forums, is because they usually run on phpBB, vBB or similar, and this feature is built in.
PH has been pretty heavily customised from whichever package it was originally, so I would suspect it would take quite either a lot of workto do from scratch or, if the original software had a plugin for it, a lot of testing to make sure nothing else was knackered.

Historically there hasn't been one because of the bandwidth issues and the fact that the forum software is home brewed. The last set of mods I did about 18 months ago did include a crude uploader I think but I never quite finished it.
Given the volume of traffic on the site now, hosting pics is not actually that simple as they need a more sophisticated infrastructure.
Not to say it can't be done but it's not a doddle any more.

The disadvantage for me and possibly lots of other meandering shirkers - I mean, workers, is that most of the picture hosting sites are blocked/restricted when viewing from a work computer, certainly the main ones like tiny, imageshack etc. I used to host on imagecave, but that too has just been blocked. All I see is little red crosses. I'm a bit unusual as I'm away for a month at a time so can't just wait an hour or so till I get home.
Not whinging - if it's for bandwidth reasons and will be more hassle than it is worth then so be it. (It may also help keep PH off the 'blocked' sites register....jay-zues, there's a thought....

Surely if you can't take a little time to upload them to a hosting site and then link them to PH then they probably aren't worth posting in the first place.One very good reason to not inlcude an uploading service is to stop people posting pictures on every post they make as a kind of signature or even to just make the pages load up smoothly and quickly.
I'm half way through writing an upload script. A link is next to "rules of posting" just above the box on the post form. You click that and get asked for the file, it then sends the request to imageshack using their XML api (via ajax). You need a key though, i've been using mine for the time being but in their terms for using the API:
