I just attempted to open your home page and it gave me a file download error. It asks me if I trust the source of this file information.

I have been in via the home page once already this morning and no problems. Plus I cant open it any more.

Are you being attacked by the thought police?

I got that even when pressing ctrl-f5 to refresh, but it seems OK now.

It appears to have done something to my IE.

Time for a virus scan methinks.

Working fine now.

Is there a virus doing the rounds?

Had the same thing each time I went to go onto the site, it's my homepage. Saved and deleted the file. Left the site, came back and same thing happened again. Norton and windows are all at the latest state on PC. Most strange.

Yeah, I'm getting the file download thing now. Perhaps it's an advert, which would explain it being intermittent?

Seems OK in Firefox.

ok, two things have been done to the home page.

Firstly there's a bit of javascript that will redirect you to default1.htm if you've got a screen of 1024 or bigger.

Secondly a new banner delivery mechanism is being used. It's possible that there's a banner in there with an incorrect spec causing the browser to think that it needs to download something.

I'll remove the redirection for the moment until I get to the bottom of it.

My screen is 1600x1200, but I suspect your banner rotator because it is intermittent.

Sorry about that.

It's not anything sinister, just a file type being misinterpreted.

If anyone can download it or establish what it's trying to download then it would be an enormous help as I've not encountered it myself.

It looks like the sort of 'half content' that some proxies tend to try and foist on us.

are you by any chance on NTL ?

if so it could well be that the proxy your using is crap

Try using a different local proxy, or jsut ctrl-f5 to force the proxy to regrab the page.

Its all good

Ted, you have mail.

From looking at the file contents, I'm guessing a binary file is being sent as part of the HTTP stream. Or something in your header/css file is corrupt perhaps? There are no [ html ] or [ head ] tags.

Just experimenting now.

Probably the wrong time to do it but I would like to get to the bottom of it!

ah, I guess that's why 'default1.htm is missing' error appears when going to www.pistonheads.com.

I'm on .com but linked straight to the forums.

I have been getting this intermitently for a couple of days and every time for the last 30 minutes or so. Actually got here by doing a search on Google on my own screen name, so got to my profile, and then from there to Gassing Station. I have downloaded the file and will email it to Ted assumming that the email address is on here somewhere!

Can't find an email address at the moment, so tried petrolted@pistonheads.com will see if it bounces back.

However whilst searching for an eamil address I went to the contact us page, which seemed to be lacking in contacts for news and some other headings. Also in te first section it says to the effect we welcome feedback to give feedback and just stops. Would quote it exactly but can't get through the front page to find it again!

Thanks. Didn't realise the contact page was broken.

The download problem should have been sorted though.
