Hi,

I’m thinking of changing my Huracan for an Aventador.

I was just searching on Pistonheads and was surprised to see that there wasn’t any new Aventadors, apart from SVJs.

Have Lamborghini stopped making the regular Aventador?

I thought you could theoretically still get an S but they were making them in tiny numbers.
Just ask any franchise dealer.

I recently tested the Aventador SVJ over a few days as a prospective replacement for my AMG GTC, incredible theatre but i think its a 3 times a year theatre car only, it would work as a 4th or 5th car but not as a 3rd that you can take on 4 or 5 track days a year which was my intended use, weirdly I am now looking to test the Hurracan Perfermante or sto.

AV didnt work very well as road car apart from tunnel blasts. Good for cruising boulevards for attention if thats your thing, wouldn’t work very well on track imo, gearbox was not very good vs competition either.

Very glad i tested one extensively before buying.

Thanks for the feedback.

Does anyone actually know if they still make a standard Aventador (even or including the S)?

I find it really strange that not many people seem to know?

Ask HRO, they’ll know.

I believe not, just end run SVJ and Ultimae which is really the facelift S

I was told a little while ago when i enquired the same with my main dealer that an Aventador S could possibly still be special ordered. However, with the introduction of the Ultimae, I think as others have said that will see out the production run.

As a current Performante owner I am also at a bit of a crossroads and was wondering where to go next. The STO would be obvious, but no good for me as I don't do track days and need the albeit minimal front storage to at least enjoy weekends or nights away. I considered an Ultimae until finding out the cost (gulp!!!). I have had an LP580-2 previously, so don't see the point of an EVO RWD. Am I just best off keeping the Perf? At the moment thats the way I'm leaning.

One thing I would add and one I found important, especially if mainly road use..

The V12 noise is sublime (incredible in fact) and the AV experience is obviously dominated by this, BUT it only sounds good at WOT in the 6-8.5k, elsewhere in the range the V10 or even a V8 beats it for sonorous pleasure and that’s where you spend 85-90% of your time.

You can’t burble around in the AV, it just doesn’t sound nice to my ear.

I disagree - the S certainly doesn’t need revving to 6.5k to sound good. Even at 3k it sounds like thunder coming down the road..it actually sounds better than an SVJ (and that’s the main dealers opinion). But I agree re the clutch and track days. It’s an event car, no different to the Countach in its day

Do t get me wrong, it still sounds ok to 6.5k but in comparison to thereafter.. and to the way the V10 sounds throughout its range, i think its left in 2nd place, and it certainly cant cruise along at 2k as it sounds awful imo (but then like beauty, its subjective)

My experience is of the SVJ though, maybe i need to try the standard car, i wanted to anyway tbh, this might be another good reason to..

The Aventador S cannot be bought anymore and indeed sounds the best of all Aventadors (and loudest).
Newer cars like the STO (i have one also with the aventador s) are less noisy at low revs. Only at top revs is the STO louder than than the aventador s. The STO is also louder than the huracan evo.

I have ordered the ultimate roadster and that will probably also be less loud than the S and more in line with the SVJ.
So might keep the S as well… Not sure yet.

Ultimate is also sold out.

This is an important consideration for any V6, V8, V10, V12.

WOT opportunities are becoming increasingly rare, in the UK at least.

Can't order the S, the last few of the AV S were packaged as limited edition cars for the Korean market. The Ulitmae was introduced because the replacement got delay and is basically an Aventador S refresh.

Driving an Sv at the moment and loving it. Previously owned a 2013 Aventador which I enjoyed and then from new an S in 2018 which I didn’t jel with. Also owned a std Huracan and 2 performante’s one coupe and a spyder. V10’s were great fun and great allrounders but you can’t beat the v12.
I don’t track my cars these days and I hate to think how expensive running an Aventador on track would be. The Perf would be the car to track but for theatre and the noise nothing comes close to the Aventador. You don’t need to be doing licence losing speeds to enjoy the Avetador and even on tick over they sound great.
The Perf is the better car no doubt at all but the v12 is the one to own a proper super car. Hairy chest wig and all!

I have a 2018 Aventador S. It's bloody brilliant. I have installed a capristo exhaust remote valve controller and it bloody sounds insane right from 500rpm biggrin

The car is magnificent and as rare as fk as they made many more SV and SVJs than a standard S. It's the best to drive out of the 3 IMHO (have tried all 3!).

Comparing a Huracan to an Aventador is really strange as 2 very different and awesome cars.

The Aventador is an event the Huracan is a sports car! I am 34 by the way smile

I think you’ll find the S is rarer due to lack of demand it wasn’t a limited run. I’ve owned std, an S and an Sv. I’d probably agree the S is probably the most advanced car but it isn’t the best to drive in my opinion. Not driven the Svj to be honest but the Sv is a much more visceral car and it suits it very well.
Anyway not to take anything away from any of the range they’re all great fun.

Visceral is a good word.
I use the word brutal.

Sorry but the S is the way better drivers car than the SV.
The rear wheel steering makes the car so much better, unless of course you only drive the car on motorways/straight lines.

I think on paper you are right, the rear wheel steer is a good idea. I only noticed the difference when parking tbh and then it wasn't that different. Tbh I think the only place you would really notice it would be on track. The other thing to consider is what is a drivers car, if you mean it would gain you 2/10's on a lap then maybe but if you mean something that feels even more special then the SV has it in spades. Having owned three different variants and actually driven them (my cars are not garage queens) that is my opinion. I bought an S new on the basis it was transformed from the standard car and while I loved it, I felt it wasn't that different.
The market will judge and the Sv seems to be holding up well, mind you perhaps the SVJ as a mixture of the two (S and SV) will bounce back as initially they did drop sharply.
