Hi PaulPAUL
I think I have quite a few pics of your car? Were you the one who had the footprints on the rear wing with the advert for a 'Wing Walker', and the Ferrari badges with crosses through them on the door, like the old fighter planes?

Great thread guys, I've really enjoyed reading all the stories and info on here. I've also loved seeing all the pictures too !
I have learned something though - I wasn't aware of two different body types !
?
The early cars 400 400s and possibly a bit later into the 5000 were called the low body cars. They are about 2'' lower in the screen. You would have to see them sit side by side to see it.They therefore have less headroom than the later 'high body' cars. There are differences in the doors etc to compensate. There isn't a lot of headroom at the best of times. I am 5 11 and when I wear a crash helmet ( for circuit) driving) I have to alter the seat quite a bit and sit well back to see out! The body structure is tubes onto which the body is hung. The basic 'chassis' didn't change much other than to incorporate the hight change.
The early 400 cars were quite different though in having thinner; glass; body panels; and aluminium in different places and mag wheels. They are lighter as a consequences.
The biggest engine change was for the QV which had the 4 valves and 5.2 capacity. That was used form late 85 through to end of production unchanged. approx 1320 of the about 2000 cars made. They are rated at 455 although in tune and sorted possibly 470bhp which made them not much slower than the early diablo, apart from the aerodynamics and smoother delivery due to Fuel injection.
A properly sorted and used QV is still a very fast car today. Nothing to sap power, like power steering or catalysts etc.
The late 88 cars and the ones called the 88.5 and the anniversary were the most changed detail wise. The anniversary allegedly had 400 approx changes compared to the early qv but these were detail not suspension engine or main body.
Hope this helps

Following on Paul's lead here is a video of an old banger like mine(!) accelerating hard. Gives a an idea of the noise and how quickly these old bangers can go.
