Hi all just posted this on the 330e thread. If you're getting your BMW i via a company car scheme or salary sacrifice please read this http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/news/155399/company-car-...

And if you want to oppose these taxes please sign this petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171523
In the case of the 330e and other PHEVs, they are cars created to maximise tax loopholes and in pretty every other way are a pain to true EV drivers. If I was going to complain I'd only want them to retain the benefits for zero emission cars or at worse cars only driven by electric motors (i.e. a REX with a 2 gallon fuel tank).

And today I was going to sign a business lease on an i3; think I'll wait 'till the Autumn Statement!

Might as well buy another V12...

I'm considering signing a lease on an i3 on a £243 9+23 15k/yr basis. For general info the following options are available for:

Metallic +£0
Parking Assist Pack +£10
Loft +£9
Lodge +£13
Suite +£19

Excess mileage 10.22ppm

all +VAT

That seems very reasonable to me, since from past experience the full price of options are amortised over the lease period.

Hope this helps.

5 days in, and i think this might actually be the best car BMW make!
Shame it hasn't sold well but I've said it since I first drove one in 2013, BMW need to get as many people as they can behind the wheel so they can experience how they drive. Use them as courtesy cars at every dealership, whatever, it's much much easier to sell an i3 after someone has driven it.
Great little car but I wonder why BMW didn't do a Tesla and start off with an i7 before doing more mainstream (and cheaper) EV's?

Big cars don't cost that much more to make than small cars, they could have had say a 60kWh battery, carbon chassis (as per the i3/i8) and then charged 7 series+ money for it.

Avant garde styling inside and out, higher quality interior than the Model S with lighter weight and a better drive and they might have taken a fair few Tesla sales.

i3 ordered, though I'll await with interest/trepanation the Autumn Statement on 23 November.

If the Chancellor does indeed increase BIK on zero emission BEV (which will be an absolute travesty), may well have to cancel order frowncry

I have no personal knowledge, but suspect the changes may simply give more graduation within the 0-99 CO2 bands.
Cars like the i3 that are at the very low end will still have quite low BIK rates. It's more the soft hybrids and low emission diesels that will see the largest change I suspect.

Either way, with fuel costs what they are, leasing an i3 would save me money.

I've just made that choice! My £16k i3 is, i think, cheap enough to be a sensible purchase. Yes, it's going to loose money, but not as much as buying a new one! I also suspect, that although the small battery cars will always be worth less than the big battery ones, they won't actually depreciate any faster. So buy cheap, sell cheap is ok!

What will be more interesting is if "Mileage" continues to be the same largest effector on used car values. ICE cars have a good reason where more miles means lower value, as parts wear out, but EV's really don't suffer the same effects, and things like batteries both diagnose and advertise their condition, but also can be replaced incredibly easily.

So, you can go to buy say a 5yo EV, with 80kmiles on it, look at the battery SoC to work out how worn out it is, and then look at the general condition of the car, and say "that's a good car" far, far easier than for an equivalent ICE vehicle.
Pretty much my logic when I got my 2 year old BEV at the beginning of this year. It had lost about 45% of its original cost with only 17,000 km on the clock. I've pretty much doubled that and it's been very cheap motoring. For 20,000km a year the cost of lease etc is pretty much what I was paying for 20,000km fuel / service on the Subaru we were using for the daily drive.

I suspect that current mileage-related depreciation is less of an issue with EVs. In 2 years time when the lease runs out I suspect we'll keep the car (it will still have 5 years of the 10 year free servicing deal to run). Depending on the cost at the time we might upgrade the battery - I expect another jump in capability in the next 2 years.

It's already been announced there will be increases every year for the next three years or so. Current year is 7%, then 9% and then (if I remember correctly) 13% and 16%. See https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...

Looks like I might be wrong on the 16% unless that applies in 2019-20

So, the Autumn Statement would appear to remain favourable, just, for 'ultra-low emission' vehicles.

i3 - the long wait begins.....

It seems crazy .. BIK will go up to 19% , then drop to 2% for 2020-21.

Can someone direct me to the post of the guy that had to give a used i3 back because it had loads of issues? I vaguely recall readings about it but can't find the post.

Interesting thread this am sorely tempted to get on board with an I3 for pure cheapness .

Pal of mine has a lease deal of £240 a month with 8k miles per year allowance .
Given he lives in London so is crossing the congestion charge regulary it's working out well for him.

Sick and tired of the expense of running an everyday car now

This is what I did. I got a ex-BMW car with the remaining part of the 10 year free servicing that BMW here in Switzerland bundle with the car. It's proving cheaper to own than the petrol & 1 less service on the Subaru Forester that it now shares the garage with. Will never go back to an ICE car as daily.

Just got my new i3 after 2.5 years of the previous one. the old one was starting to be a right pain as our school drop-off / travel to work changed and the i3 wouldn't manage the trip ( about 60 miles ) in the cold weather . Wife turned into the drive as the range dropped to zero one evening .

So today the old car shows a range full of 57 miles and the new one 103 miles which will work for us but is still disappointing compared with the claimed range .
