Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

Hi,
Looking to buy a second hand one, budget of 10kish so will be well used.
Questions;
1. If charged should the battery show full on the dash or would a battery have lost some of it's ability to hold charge over time so only show say 90%?
2. I've seen pics of the interior and switches. When driving do you have to turn on energy collection if say going down a hill or is everything reclaim wise automated when the car can? Do you manually switch on electric?
3. Is there any servicing of the electrical drive or is servicing just the engine? What sort of price are services?
4. Are the petrol engines any good, do they have any issues to look out for such as belts/chains etc?
5. Are there any other key things to look for when buying?
6. On mileage, assume this is for every journey the car has made. Does the car record any difference between electric and petrol driving?
7. On a frosty day you don't turn on engine to defrost. How long does it take to warm up? Does it have heated screens?
Think that is all for now! Thanks in advance.

Yes it will. There is a switch behind the wiper stalk top left that cycles the dash display.

Default regeneration is B0 you change it using the paddles.

The gearbox & diffs needs oil changes. Servicing is not cheap around £300-600 depending on which one.
4. Are the petrol engines any good, do they have any issues to look out for such as belts/chains etc?
The 2L is the old Lancer engine so pretty bullet proof. Chain. Only issue is the filter in the heating system getting blocked
5. Are there any other key things to look for when buying?
All tyres should be the same. Check the granny charge (13A) lead is with the car
6. On mileage, assume this is for every journey the car has made. Does the car record any difference between electric and petrol driving?
The display can auto reset so could be.
7. On a frosty day you don't turn on engine to defrost. How long does it take to warm up? Does it have heated screens?
On a cold day with the heating on the engine will start, although the heating is electric from the main battery,
You can ensure it doesn't start. You can also preheat the car if plugged in, by remote from your phone and defrost it. Depends on model if it has heated screen/steering wheel etc.
Good facebook group for PHEVs, also Richis; website.

Well I have taken the plunge and eventually sold my E350 merc and now bought a PHEV Outlander. So far quite impressed by it, energy recovery and pure battery range seem very good and costs about £3.50 to charge giving 30 miles. Because we live in the country we have big hills so learning how to maximise charge recovery which it does seem to do very well.
Impressed by it so far, will be interesting to see returns. Our school run equates to 4 trips of 13 miles a day then weekend bimbling and shops etc. so about 280 miles a week on average. Say 12 charges a week, £42 and no petrol and no road tax. In the merc fuesl would be say £75 a week plus £8 for road tax so roughly a £41 per week saving.
Only sad thing about it is I used to buy cars to enjoy, drive and appreciate. Not it is all just maths and money.

Aren’t Mitsubishi finished in the UK?
What does the future look like in regards to spares and dealer support?
I asked this before I bought mine. A. it was the best selling PHEV by a country mile so plenty of technical support, although some on the FB PHEV forum are saying some spares can be a problem. But that may just be the component shortage everyone is suffering from. The PHEV was sold across the globe (in fact the 2023 is out for the USA & APJ) so there will be on going support from Japan. The importers are still going so there will be assistance there. What does the future look like in regards to spares and dealer support?

Mitsubishi withdrew from the UK/European market. Mitsubishi UK (aka The Colt Car Company) closed down and the HQ sold off. Spares are now handled by International Motors UK (same importer as Subaru and Isuzu, I believe). What does the future look like in regards to spares and dealer support?
Hello all,
Can anyone comment with regards to an earlier model (with potentially high miles) and the range of the battery? Does it reduce over time / mileage? Considering one....as mu commute would be mostly electric..but not if the range get hugely reduced on older / high miles models.

It will be lower. Ours is pushing 80,000 miles now and the degradation is noticeable. Is not a deal breaker for us but its definitely there. I should probably plug in an obd reader and check. We're probably getting about 16-20 miles out of our 2014 now, depending on the weather.

Hi All, first winter with car and first spell of chilly weather. Mine is a 2014 so older model. In this chilly weather it only runs on petrol even with a full charge. Is there any way for force it on to battery, at least when the engine has warmed? Thanks
Mine (2020) has a button for EV priority. I have had a few days only so I haven't tried it yet. The manual is an inch thick and not because it's in myriad languages. It's all Double Dutch at the moment! Jimbo. said:

Turn the heat down and press the eco button. It will still likely start the engine for a mile or so though. Gassing Station | EV and Alternative Fuels | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
