There are precisely two EV estates, the Taycan Cross/Sport Turismo and the MG5.
Obviously not the OP but personally the Taycan is out of budget, the MG5 is too slow and dull (both for me and the OP) and I refuse to have an SUV... which doesn't really leave much.
That's why I bought a Model S, more luggage space than the previous RS6, more space than my wife's Touareg. I have 3 older kids and it fits them really well, the catch (other than the Tesla Marmite effect), you can't buy a new one.Obviously not the OP but personally the Taycan is out of budget, the MG5 is too slow and dull (both for me and the OP) and I refuse to have an SUV... which doesn't really leave much.

It's only a hatchback though and really not ideal for kids + dog + luggage plus it can't tow (which means I'd need something else to do that) and so no tow bar mounted bike rack (which tbh is more of a pain than not towing itself).
Very much not ideal for a dog but the luggage space is HUGE, google the capacity VS any estate car, it's hugely practical. I have a detachable towbar and launch my boat with it and just did a 1600 mile trip to Germany using free supercharging with a 4 bike rack on the towbar. As I said the back seat is big with 3 seats, wider than our Touareg's and my old RS6. It's by nearly any measure a very practical car.Problem with the taycan / etron gt platform is it’s really a 2+2 layout, 3rd seat in the rear option is really an afterthought, squeezed in accompanied by a space wasting transmission tunnel.
I quickly dismissed one for my small kids as too small, never mind teenagers.
Wife would boot my balls if I informed her we were paying £1k a month for a car we don’t comfortably fit in
I’m waiting for an i4 m50 touring to be released before I consider ev any further !!

As I said the back seat is big with 3 seats, wider than our Touareg's and my old RS6. It's by nearly any measure a very practical car.Granted the space *is* huge and but the real extra comes from two "bonus" storage areas, the frunk at ~59-150l (depending on exact model) and the underboot storage[1], which undoubtedly where the extra claimed capacity comes from over cars with similar sized boots (most have about 500l) but the boot is an awkward shape entry, a high lip and we've a fairly big dog!
On a related note I did also find the boot *too* big in a hire insignia hatchback (which is about the same length) primarily because of the entry, with an estate it's just as long but you can stick a knee on the lip and then reach but with the hatch you can't and it becomes a very awkward lean in to get anything near the back of the seats. Obviously this is going to be a very subjective thing though.
[1] I can't speak for all cars but there is a massive amount of wasted space under the boot "floor" in my estate that is filled with a foam insert and spare wheel[2]. Obviously below the floor is the exhaust, fuel tank etc that plain isn't needed in an EV so even with a motor in the mix can have quite a bit more space. The spare wheel I'm 50/50 on. I've used the spare twice on the current car, once on the previous one. The alternative would have been a nightmare. At the same time my wife has never needed the spare on her cars.
[2] And in my case tow bar, jump leads, first aid kit, snow socks (in winter) and other "stuff" that would have to live elsewhere anyway.

The only BEV estate I’m aware of is the Taycan. And is in your budget I think.
There is also the MG5, but it's not exactly a performance car. There are plenty of very quick, large EVs. I'd take a hard look at the EV6, which has a form factor quite similar to an estate car, and in GT trim will be very quick indeed. Also maybe the E-Tron S, BMW IX, or the quick version off the Nissan Ariya. The I-Pace might be a touch on the small side for your needs.

The ev6 is no bigger than an iPace, possibly even smallerThere are plenty of very quick, large EVs. Wouldn't go anywhere near the MG5 - questionable quality and an awful budget brand. There are plenty of very quick, large EVs. I've been really impressed with the MG5 estate we've got on loan - possibly because i wasnt expecting much. Good space inside and a big very usable boot. However, its nowhere near the level of the other cars mentioned here - its great as a 30k white goods car but its clearly not in the same league as a 50-70k prestige Audi/ Jag/ Tesla.
OP, I was in a very similar position to you and have looked at pretty much every EV to find the one that most suits my needs. I ended up going for the Tesla Model Y as although it's not a traditional estate it's got a huge boot (even before you take the 'bonus' extra storage into account). I was really surprised at how some of the 'bigger' looking EVs, like the BMW iX in particular, have got relatively miniscule boots.

I'm curious. How much stuff do you carry in your boot on a daily basis that means 500 litres of space is not enough? I'm genuinely curious. raspy said:

I do on a regular basis. The car is frequently stuffed for any family trip. My son has a big special needs buggy and it doesn't fit in most normal cars so trying to get that in, plus all our stuff and 5 people is a challenge for most non SUV cars (and I'd rather walk than drive a people carrier). On holiday this summer we ordered a Viano taxi and an E Class saloon showed up, the buggy wouldn't fit in that so we had to get a Skoda Superb taxi as well and put the buggy in with the seats down. My Tesla swallows the buggy and lots of bags/stuff. It's great for our needs and I can daily drive a 'normal' car that I actually like.

Challenging then! Sounds like you could do with something like the Rivian R1S. How about a Tesla Model X?
I think the Kia EV9 is due soon? The Polestar 3 a will be opening orders pretty soon too.
For new cars Tesla aren't even offering an estimate of a delivery date for the Model X and from a couple of car-industry chums I believe we won't see the Rivian on UK streets for quite some time (2024 at the earliest) but there's so much speculation that it's not worth waiting, in my opinion at least.I think the Kia EV9 is due soon? The Polestar 3 a will be opening orders pretty soon too.
