I'm in the fortunate position of having an i3 and an M4. Maybe it's about time I found somewhere to give them a little drag race!

If you live near the Midlands I'll come and film it ;-) I've got a nice collection of camera's and mics ;-)
I live in Derby! Need to find a suitable location...

Hi All

I am looking to try out a new larger battery Rex in a few weeks (whenever it's in at the the Dealer), but what do you all think about me managing a 150 mile commute each day? I drive 75 miles each way, mainly motorway (try to cruise at 75mph, but the M25 limits that a little!).

Currently we don't have any charging points at work, but the landlord appears amenable to me getting one fitted. Alternatively I can park on a friends driveway and charge via a standard 13amp socket.

Would this commute be achievable in the new Rex, if I charge at home each night and would I need to charge at work?

Many thanks

Rich
I would think you would manage that with 125 miles of battery and 25 miles of REx if you can't charge during the day. I'll let you know for definite when I get my new REx!

Didn't think when I started this thread in Oct 2013 that I would be ordering another one already!

I am going from a current BEV to a 93Ah REx because:

- I want do to longer trips and it gives that bit of extra security.
- I will actually end up doing more electric miles because of this.
- It adds next to bugger all to the lease cost.
- BIK is now the same for both (when I got my BEV, BIK was zero).

I'm not sre how many (if any) i3s are ordered speculatively by dealers. I suspect most are built to customer order.

RP and TT,

Can you use existing charger at home for the new extended battery cars?
Yes, it is the same connector.

Thanks. Still happy with yours?
My charger or my i3?

I love my i3, so much so I'm hopefully picking up a new higher spec one tomorrow!

The charger is just a device and it works so all good!

I bought a BEV in March 2014. I found that I shied away from using it for longer trips as charging can be hit and miss. Chargers not working or already in use. Last week I took delivery of a new 94Ah i3 this to,e with REx. I fully intend to use this for long journeys now as have the option for rapid charging and/or petrol fill ups..

How many miles do you do a year?

Is the new 94 version any quicker?

What is the 0-100mph on the i3?
It doesn't do a 100. But I suspect you knew that.
It's important not to feed them...

Out of interest, people who currently have an i3, do you drive it around like Miss Daisy is in the back trying to eek out as much range as possible or (assuming the trip is within the range remaining) drive it like normal and just charge it up again overnight.

I only wonder as, on the i3 facebook page, they seem to drive around in eco pro all the time with a view to maximising range. Whilst I can see the challenge in this, given how much less it costs to fuel it than a conventional car, is there a big saving in taking this approach or does it only equate to a few miles lost on the range overall?
No, I hoof it pretty much everywhere!

Not sure how you get that impression from the FB group. Most of us hoof it everywhere!

Are you sure about that? Neither sound correct. As far as I am aware the i3 has always come with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty the same as other BMWs. With a separate 8 year 100,000 mile warranty on the batteries.
