Ok guys and girls. Thought I would put a fresh thread up from the classic thread.

I can arrange us a PH private area of the Maison Blanche campsite for the 2008 Le Mans classic. If we can get enough cars then it'll be done 100% at cost price as it'll just be a section for fun. Effectively somewhere for all PH crew to get together and a stones throw from the village and track.

We've been offered 5000sqm. That will include camping passes for 100 cars. Hopefully a group buy will also entitle us to group discount on the race tickets as it does at the 24hr but I will check on that.

So, cost price is €114.50 per car. If we get 100 cars and you all send me a cheque then I will get the field. Simple really!

We have 18 so far from the other thread. Please add yours if you want to join in.

Hi

I have been lurking here for a while, I have been considering going to the Classic in 2008 as a first time foray into Le Mans culture. So I have few simple questions, firstly I read on the Le Mans site that modern cars are not allowed in the circuit, so would we be able to park in the campsite or are the cars parked offsite. Secondly I am a bit confused about what tickets you need. Obviously I would have to buy a paddock pass and grandstand tickets but would I also need to buy a general admission ticket?.

Finally I have not met any of the PH'ers before, would there be a problem if I book to come along with you guys?

Thanks

Neil smile

There is some regulation about pre 1975 (I think) cars being allowed onto the circuit. I'm taking a 78 and a 92 so neither will be allowed "on". However, for getting to the camping area have no worries.

You buy one camping pass for the car. Then as many general admission tickets as you have people. If you then want grandstand then I'm sure Guy will know what to do. I've never had a grandstand for the 24hr.

You'd be amazed at just how friendly these places are, not just PH, but LM itself. Some of our best nights were spent stumbling beer in hand from tent to tent talking cars with like minded folk.

Don't think grandstand or pit tickets are required. One entrance tickets gets you full access. Certainly did last time. It's 1/5 of the number of people so there is a lot more room and everything is open.

And you'd be more than welcome to come along Neil. You have to start somewhere!

Thanks for the advice and positive replies. I will talk to a few of my friends over the next couple of days and get a number on the list.

Don't mean to put a downer on this Guy, but why is this so expensive for what is basicly a space to camp ? We are looking at £80 here. I only paid £40 a pitch for the main Le Mans this year in BSJ, whilst your reserved very 'boggy' area of BSJ was £99 per pitch. I know that MB is nearer the village etc, but this still seems steep for this event.

I may be interested in attending this event but not at those prices.

If you book your tickets before the end of Jan you get Tribune grandstand tickets and Paddock passes free of charge, nadda, gratis.
General entry tickets for the weekend are approx £36 per person allowing for postage etc.

Also my understanding is that race cars post 70's wont be on the track, parade laps are open to all clubs, but it has to be a club booking them.

Whilst the original cobs were 60's cars, most of the cobs on the track last year were under 10 years old.
I also remember seeing lots of BMW's on parade laps as well ???

Because Maison Blanche is a much closer location to the village (a stonesthrow) and therefore, the ACO charge more to rent a space than they would down in Beausejour (which isn't open for the classic.)

The space is 2.29 euros per square meter for the classic and so that equates to 11450euros for 5000 sqm. They will allow us 100 cars on that space so that makes 114.50 per car. Cost price. No profit.

If it's too expensive Ian then you're welcome to camp elsewhere obviously but the point of renting a dedicated space is that there are a lot of PHers going down to the classic so why not look into having a spot that everyone can get together in one place. If it's too expensive for some then there are plenty of cheaper options.

Guy, please could you clarify....is €114.50 just for the camping pitch, or does it include anything else? €114.50 is approx £80, yet on another thread Cobra Andy confirmed that MB camping pitches are £57. Is the difference just for the reserved P'Hers area?

Cheers.

Hi, not been to Le Mans before, but was thinking of going next year. However, as a newbie, what's the best? Le Mans or Classic Le Mans? I'd only be able to go on one, so I'd want to make the right decision. If it comes down to the cars, then classic would probably get my vote, what's got the best and friendliest atmosphere. Pro's and Con's?

Cheers.

Le Mans 24 hr. All about the festival atmosphere and party. Brilliant fun and as a car fan you will see almost everything you've ever dreamed about on display or driving about.

Classic. As above but less busy. About 1/5 the number of people. I could not choose between them and will do both in the years when both are running but if I really had to choose, it'd be the 24hour.
