We been twice and sat at a cruise speed of around 100 to 120 mph with no issues.
We usually try to do a tiny stint on motorways and make most of the journey on back roads through villages. That way there is less police, less traffic, and more fun
Its only a matter of time before you get caught doing those speeds, guess you've been lucky !We usually try to do a tiny stint on motorways and make most of the journey on back roads through villages. That way there is less police, less traffic, and more fun
I thought the same and got stung for 750 euro's for doing 134mph on a near empty dual carraigeway on our way back from LM, oh, and a 6 month french driving ban - speeding and LM is really not worth the hassle, just a world of expense and misery !!
Yes last thing you want, is your car taken off you and paying for the French Policemans ball.
I stay around 80 mph over there, maybe a short blast at the right time.
However not over 100mph did it once was lucky, with a LeMans chap in a Ferrari at around *5* +
Not again, got home first thing my son told my wife.

I agree with you both, we were lucky as plenty of people got pulled according to the various threads. I think this year we will slow down and stick to 80 - 90. Trouble is, last time we were in bangers as we were at uni and now we graduated and all have pretty quick decent cars, it will be more difficult....

We have asked for a late morning crossing as Le Mans is a family outing, self and wifey in the RS eldest son in an Elise and youngest son in an Exige with brother and his son, known as family bonding.
Hopefully this will be the last year i take my son, he is seventeen and driving , so next year i will be the copilot!!garyfrogeye said:
That's the advantage of going in the Frogeye. While I have previously returned hitting speeds of 110mph (120mph is my car's absolute max), 80mph/130kph is a really nice cruising speed for the old girl.
Or to put it another way over 40 years of 'progress' means that we now pay loads of money to use expensive autoroutes at around the same type of speeds and with cars more suited to the RN's of that time. Not having an old Triumph 2.5 like I had when I started driving in the 1970's I'd prefer not to bother, than risk confiscation of the car and/or a stay in a French jail.romee2000 said:

Doing the trip this year like last in my modified Exige (providing it's back from having even more tinkering) along with a mates in a 1972 Corvette stingray and a GBS zero.
Looking to form 'Le Convoy' for a leisurely blast down there if anyone is interested....

Probably a mix of Boeing or airbus, plus some high speed train action and hopefully a last leg as passenger in an Aston or TVR.
Singapore to Amsterdam to Le Mans, potentially with a Brands Hatch GP track in there somewhere as well.
Now that is the way to do it. Just don't say anything negative about Sing on facebook between now and then - you might not make it out Singapore to Amsterdam to Le Mans, potentially with a Brands Hatch GP track in there somewhere as well.
