I agree with the total Chav element. This year was my first year at Le Mans and camped opposite us was a group of about 6/7 lads who not only brought 4 Marshall type speakers with them to play Techno music 18 hours a day at 300db but also thought they were the biggest gifts to wit and comedy to mankind by bringing along a electric megaphone and shout CNT through it nigh on non stop (I kid you not) for the whole weekend.

Now I know that Le Mans is supposed to be a boistrous weekend but they were taking the pee.

We didnt see them leave their camp once all weekend so they werent there for the racing. I guess that they couldnt get tickets for the football so decided to bring their IN-GER-LAND mentallity to Le Mans.

I hope this sorts it self out or gets marshalled in someway - ...

... maybe a good sized club needs to setup up a cordon round the roundabout and help control it so it doest get stopped... because of someone getting killed.

I blame it on the weather. Need to have a really wet year, which puts people off, and then only those hardcore Le Mans fans return the following year.

Its definately getting worse this year, it has always been a treat watching some fantastic cars have some fun, but it is in danger of being stopped completely through a group of complete idiots.

We stayed in Le Mans town square after the drivers parade, which usually has a good atmosphere, but i was shocked at the antics of some people.

I found it worrying that when an innocent French family with small children drove though the square, some people thought it would be acceptable to throw beer over the windscreen, put their a**es through the windows, open rear doors and pull off rear wipers.

I can only see more and more of the old Le mans fun being stopped completely if this mindlessness carrys on.

I agree with all that has been said. I hate control and I love Le Mans but something needs to be done, preferably self administered. We`ve all enjoyed jolly japes over the years but there is a line when humour turns into something a little darker and more dangerous. Please don`t let the oiks ruin our weekend...

I imagine they'll be some sort of controls sooner or later if the Friday stuff gets too much.
I only visited the roundabout briefly before moving on to the 'Brit Bar' up the hill.

I would have thought the area could be avoided , as the ' burnout competion ' wasn't diffiult to miss, ( or hear! )

Still , my group had an excellent time and will be there for 2007!

Been a few times now and this year was my first since 2003 and I have to say that the Houx Annexe roundabout was mental compared to previous years. Far too many people there which resulted in people spilling onto the roads, a very drunken element that were unruly and vociferous and a mindless element hell-bent on vandalism. I have to say though that I thought the biggest problem was the sheer number of people down there.

I stayed on the actual roundabout as usual for safety reasons and thought it pretty dangerous on the whole this year. We had a good laugh down there but it never enters my groups heads to launch anything at cars performing. I just don't get it at all.

Took my 911 last year and had a good time but got full of beer!!!. bought a stolen recovered cherokee jeep for £500 this year, big burnouts on a low budget and lot of fun. If I go in the porsche again, might take an electric fence instead of police tape for the campsite!!!!!!...

I have to say it comes to something when people feel afraid of taking their cars to Le Mans - completely ruins 50% of the weekend for me

My 2p?

This thread is full of doom, gloom and misery and I suggest that everyone who's contibuted watches from the safety of their TV next year.

No-one can control the masses, particularly not beered up masses in 35degrees of heat. The police try their best and I've seen them arrest people, but other than can the event it's up to the attendees to take appropriate steps from the minority of tts.

If you're at Le Mans in a nice car - do the windows up/roof on OR leave it in the car park OR avoid the areas with supersoakers. Le Mans will never have the respect and decorum of the Kings Road...

Understand what you are saying, but I believe that the past couple of years has seen a marked increase in the general popularity of the event (evidenced by the camping situation), and this has contributed to an increase in petty crime, acts of minor vandilism and also the "mad Friday" events getting a little bit more hairy.

Don't think anything one can do will change this, and in some ways is part of the fun, but it is the speed at which it has changed (past 3 years?) that is surprising.

Think it's more about getting a balance between people taking the piss and people having fun.

When I first went to Le Mans I noticed the sense of comeraderie between all the brits, noteably on the drive there and back. A certain mutual respect, here for same reasons etc etc - and no, you dont need a nice car to go! (seen some right sheds there! - fair play!)

One of the best parts of Le Mans for me is the mix of exotica - Dont really get (or rather see) that over here... and camping in a field in between a Pagani Zonda, a Lambo and a 993 GT,
drinking too many beers and having a laugh with the other owners is cool.

But when it comes to chucking water into your car it is taking the piss wether it f**ks it up or not.

It's also noteble that the tts who do it aren't driving their cars around, so why do it to other peoples who are supplying the entertainment?!

As ever it will be the minority who spoil it for the rest of us, then we will all be staying at home

I've been going since 2001, and and yes, it has got more popular, due to being mentioned on Top Gear & other media, but I have not seen much more of an increase of the stuff talked about on here.

Le Mans has plenty of things to do, so you only need to attend stuff that you're into.
It's a public event, open to all types, not a 'Private club '.

If the 'Friday madness' is not to your taste then you'll be elsewhere, the place is darn well big enough!

think the problem is when you just want to drive to your campsite MB-B road and you cant! its fine that the roundabout stuff goes on and its a laugh, but when you cant just to the supermarche, or go for a spin with your windows/roof down, i dont think you should be told that you should just keep your windows up!

Seems to me the LM Classic is where people with nice cars will go to from now on so they can drive them around without them being covered in water & beer.

...and if your nice car is a classic you can even pay for laps (3 I think) of the full circuit, which has got to be better than following a truck down the Mulsanne and slowing down for the speed traps either side of Arnage corner.

Must admit, I've stopped going up there.
There's still some donutting to be had further down, just without the huge crowds that I must admit I find rather intimidating.

my first time, houx roundabout at night was awesome, admit some of the people with supersoakers were a bit intimidating, especially whn they kept being turned on us (incidentally it wasnt just ater and beer they were using) but I would still go again just for the atmosphere. I took more umbrage to the idiots who wrote on our cars in the dust...talk about a lasting reminder of the event!!!

Without wishing to sound an old fart I thought it was worse this year. I have done Le Mans about 15 times and saw more stupid behaviour this year than ever before. The group next to us who I don't think ever saw a racing car thought it funny to lay trails of petrol on the ground, even around their own cars and then setting light to it. Not very clever when surrounded by lots of nylon tents on dry grass.

Still great fun though already booked my tickets, roll on next year.....

Despite what I posted earlier it wouldnt stop me from going again - making new mates, and the drive down there was just as good as the racing for me. And sitting up in the grandstands watching the cars start the first lap actually made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end.

I will go again but will do things slightly differently with regards to accomodation next year. A motorhome on a 'nicer' campsite will be a good idea. Plus an air rifle to keep the thieving jippos at bay
