I've never been but always wanted to - now I've read this don't think I will bother

this is a small thing on the scale of le mans as a whole, it's a great weekend of racing and laughs, and there is loads of fun to be had going to the drivers parade/arnage/tetre rouge and trying to get to the Mulsanne! please dont let this put you off.

It was my first time and I loved it . We camped in Houx Annexe and was expecting full on roudiness but the only thing keeping me awake was the generator being switched on at 5.30am ?????? by the blokes next door .

Considering Houx annexe's reputation as lively - didnt see much of it myself .

Perhaps we were just lucky not to be surrounded by idiots .

Half of our group went up to the roundabout , the rest of us had decided on the Stella Bar - via the roundabout . Now we are not grumpy old farts , but we took one look at the roundabout and decided to move on . It was great to just sit at the bar with a cold one listening to The Rolling Stones being sung in French.....

Must say well done to the lads in the Transit on Houx annexe who finally managed to get a signal for the Footy , even though Radio le mans commentary was about 5 seconds out of sync !

There were a few guys at the entrance to a campsite (can't remember which one) who were pretty bored, putting water down on the road, some peole doing burnouts, but all good spirited, maybe there should be a specific area for this sort of fun. Rather than what was quite a dangerous night on the roundabout, with the in the clio (that he had hired) killing it round the roundabout. Water pistols are fun but only when used appropriately.

The guy on the motorised skateboard didnt fair to well either, he was with the guys sat next to us, he claimed he was fine but his back was in a state.

All hail the ship tho

I agree with the total Chav element. This year was my first year at Le Mans and camped opposite us was a group of about 6/7 lads who not only brought 4 Marshall type speakers with them to play Techno music 18 hours a day at 300db but also thought they were the biggest gifts to wit and comedy to mankind by bringing along a electric megaphone and shout CNT through it nigh on non stop (I kid you not) for the whole weekend.

Now I know that Le Mans is supposed to be a boistrous weekend but they were taking the pee.

We didnt see them leave their camp once all weekend so they werent there for the racing. I guess that they couldnt get tickets for the football so decided to bring their IN-GER-LAND mentallity to Le Mans.

Elms, I’d like to take issue with your comments as I believe you were with the “bat mobile” Exige group whilst I was with the aforementioned group.
Sure we had our music on, and VERY loud, but techno? Steady on there!
Seriously though, before I went last year I was pre-warned about the club 18/30 mentality of the Houx Annex camp site and all your ranting does is to expose the fact you never did your homework before leaving for your 1st LM...
I’ve read and heard from others, that there are other camp sites around the track for those looking for the subdued LeMans experience, and if you felt so strongly about our music you could've come over and said something? Perhaps even whilst my friends where chatting with yours!
You mention that there were only 6 or 7 of us, well it was actually 11 +, the reason I suggest that you only saw that amount was that the others were either fetching wood for the fire, collecting provisions from the shops or more heinously watching the racing! I myself saw more of the race with the use of a mountain bike than I did last year as did my friends with me.
I’m sorry that you felt the need to vent you frustrations and tar our group with the same chav brush in such a way, but whilst we may’ve been loud and watched the England game during Thursday’s practice session(also including ramdom brit campers that knew we had the tv), you had the choice not to set up camp opposite us! Perhaps you should get there Tuesday like us so as to have a better choice of pitch rather than turn up late in the week?
Since you do mention the chav element, I assume you took issue with your Exige friend? Please do correct me if I am wrong but I’m pretty sure he didn’t look like he was driving miss daisy in the video clips of the Annex roundabout madness on Friday night! and like last years golden dohnut, could’ve spun round and damaged his car. Worse still could’ve hurt some one in the process. (all whilst the real chav elements are throwing buckets of water/beer/wine/pi…etc into the cars)
Now I’m not going to subscribe to any prudish mentality because I signed up to Houx Annex by buying a ticket, and in doing so, I accept crazy off the wall sh** will happen so calm down and next year come and share a beer with us and if you want us to play your country & western, just ask…!
Roll on LM2007 and come on England!

Ps what’s the deal with Sloak Hunt Racing.co.uk from the side of your mates Jag?
I couldn't access the website! but remember your rant about the microphone - They were just words to LM'ers responding in the same way as a joke! much like your mates web site name which was written on the jag for all&subdry to see and much funnier!
you'll feel more at ease come 2007! welcome to LM!

Ah ha,

i think we joined you breifly on the friday night. I wasnt in a very sociable mood as i had just flung myself off a mountain bike and was in a bit of pain.

I was a bit warey of you guys when we arrived as one of you insisted on calling me a C**T when we were looking for a plot. But then you played some Rage Against the Machine over your soundsystem so i forgave you.

It does seem to get busier and busier there each year. I think it was worse in 04 though when some idiot decided to throw a bottle at the Gendermerie as it drove round as they do every so often. They were taking everything in good humour up until then!

There also wasnt quite so much soaking this year, although I did get a bit annoyed when I was 'doing my bit' and I kept getting purposly squirted in the eye's! Nice one!

N13L,

YOU C*NT, C*NT, C*NT.

I've been going 7 years and always stayed in HA. This year was the worst behaviour by far and you boys were the loudest C*nts I've ever met.

HOWEVER, we shared a beer in the early hours of Saturday am, fought off pikeys together and blew up eachothers rubbish bins, so I assume all is fair in love and war.

Roll on 07.

PS. Say hello to Gaz your Pyrotechnic nutcase mate and tell him Tarquin says "any time he wants to come over and wash Tarquins car and do a bit of housework he'll be most welcome"

Cheeky C*nt, I've done that every year I've gone. And no I wasn't driving Miss Daisy, it was Robin actually! Fortunately for me and the crowds I'm too sh*t a driver to unstick an Exige.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but it's not the showboating around the HA roundabout and on the Arnage strip that is being considered chav in this arguement, it's the mindless c*cks taking things too far by pouring wine, beer and piss into cars that partake that is the issue, as well as people that did nothing but sit in a boozer or on the numerous campsites (not just HA) getting w*nkered all weekend with no apparent interest in the racing.

N13L,

I would have to say that I'm sure that you guys had a great time by ruining a great many other peoples race weekend. I for one did not drive for 7 hours to listen to the yob culture that I strive so hard to steer clear of here in Essex.

Oh and as for your comment regarding setting up next to you being our fault, I'm sorry that I did not realise why everyone else had stayed clear of the pitch that you had chosen but I did not see that the chav element would be in such strong force this year with a ing megaphone shouting at all and sundry. Oh and your music on the whole was shite but that's not the point now is it, it's the fact that your music was indeed at 300db for the whole ing weekend, 24 hours a day. And your 'music' could be heard far from HA campsite and as for actually having the foresight to bring a megaphone, I point to my head and say "geeeenius"!

If you have no consideration for other people and their holidays then can you not perhaps go with the rest of the footballists and watch the effin World Cup where I'm sure you would be embraced and loved for the whole trip.

You sound like just the kind of prize prick who ruins everything for other people. From what I heard you behaved like utter dicks for the whole weekend. I hope you are pleased with yourselves. Perhaps we ought to come round to your place and set up a PA system playing through the night whilst screaming obscenities through megaphones.

Pathetic.

Your absolutly right, the point i was trying to convey was the fact that there's a lot of nuttyness going on around HA, and by buying a ticket should mean you accept that nuttyness will occur, more so as displayed friday night, another example could be the fireworks! i know we had them as did others, but what about the poor barstools that get their tents burnt by them falling on the roofs? they could also fall onto car roofs! if we want to impose a strict prude rule over LM, then it would loose it's appeal to a degree as the racing doesn't actually run for 24hrs...
Now as i've pointed out, yes we were loud, but none of us had super water shoots or threw any buckets at any cars as WE appreciate cars! just because we had loud music and drank beer and watched the football(once) does not make us chavvie C**ts, just noisey C**ts
Like you I hope that the mindless element takes heed and stops damaging the cars at HA roundabout and at Arnage and get back to the spirit that is LM.

This year was my first time and we had an excellent time. Mainly because we left the campsite (Houx) every day and did a lot of driving around the surrounding areas including a lake with a beach for swimming. Each day we got back to Houx late afternoon.
No-one soaked us with water or anything else but admittedly we didn't drive around Houx roundabout in the evening. Why would we want to anyway after full days' driving the evenings were time for beer?
Also thought the campsite was much quieter than we were expecting. Maybe we were just lucky that most neighbours were TVRCC members who although have a great time were also showing others respect. I personally thought many of the so-called CHAV element stayed away because of the World Cup.
Cheers.... Andrew

I think that you have kinda summed yourselves up pretty well there N13L, I just cannot understand your mentality in thinking that your behaviour is acceptable? Your reason and justifaction seems to be that you bought a ticket (as did I) and can behave how you like and that it is all part of the spirit of Le Mans! Well I'm sorry but that is just not acceptable, what gives you the God given right to ruin everyone else's weekend?

I am not a prude or a killjoy but I looked forward to this weekend for the last 12 months and as I said before I did not drive for 7 hours and pay £300 to listen to you noisy s! Your behaviour over the weekend seems to sum up the 'I don't care about anyone else' attitude that the chav culture is trying to make acceptable.

If you really are that narrow minded and selfish then you really should seek help.

Hold up here, I not trying to excuse our music, for sure it was loud(although not played for 24hrs a day at you make claim) but this is somthing i'm told has been going on for some years and as this was my 2nd year and not the 8th/9th as for some in my group, accept it as being part of the trip! again sure some of the music wasn't to my particular taste, but live and let live! we're all out there to have fun and if our music wasn't to your taste or was too loud, again whilst your friends were chatting with mine, perhaps you could've mentioned it rather than have a pop at me about it now!

If we took the stance of no music as it may offend some, if we took the stance of no pools as theres a water shortage in the uk, if we took the stance of no beer as some louts may throw up, if we took the stance that no burnouts should occur as it may offend tree huggers, if we took the stance of no whatevers, then it'd be a pretty sad place to be!
my bottom line is that whilst i agree with some of the comments made in general, you cant please 100% of the masses 100% of the time...
It also saddens me that you should take a personal pop at me as i'd been keeping an eye out on your motors whilst you were away from the camp! another little chip off the LM spirit!
Should i take you attitude and think fcuk'em next year? no i wont!
Oh and dispite what you think, we did actually go for the racing and not the football, but that doesn't matter to you now does it!
