I was beggining to think it was me, up until 2003 myself and a few friends had attended le mans every year since 1997, the chav/hooligan/knuckle dragger element (call it what you will) has been steadily geting worse, certainly since 2000.

The last time we attended in 2003, even 'mad friday' was heavily curtailed by the police closing off the road from the mulsanne rounderbout to the arnarge corner for many hours. This is only due to that element of morons who can't control themselves properly and take everything too far. I was glad to here on radio le mans that 2 people with supersoakers dressed as the SS were carted away by the CRS this year, hopefully with some police brutality for no extra fee.

the group of us who used to go are now late twenties-early thirties, so its not as if we're 90 year old party poopers. It's nice to see we're not alone in thinking this. Some of us are missing our beloved le mans and need to return, however, with such a proliferation of the chav scum element this might not happen. We all have great memories of le mans and I pity those who attended for the first time this year after what ive read here.

Something needs to be done, these people are more intent on filling their supersoakers from the shallow end of the gene pool that having any genuine interest in a legendry race and the array of weird and wonderfull vehicals that travel too it. Perhaps Classic le mans is the new le mans.

Well, I understood the query to be for a LM alternative, no?

I missed both, I needed to be in Munich that Sunday...

That is a very good point Monsiuer, I just find it strange that they would clash two big motorsport events like that!

I'm just going on to e-bay to buy the biggest speakers that I can find to play radio Le Mans at full pelt for next year! ........................

The Classic will end up being the new 'Le Mans' for sure, watching the decline over the past few years of the main w/end, its obvious, someone wil get killed (Houx annexe vid clips i have seen) or the general Chavviness will just stop lots of people enjoying themselves.

Its a real shame for the people who really want to enjoy the racing, enjoy the cars and the general good atmosphere.

I am sure there must be loads of festivals etc. that would be more chav suited?

Here Here to that.

I have not been commenting for fear of being branded a miserable old git.

However, some of the antics witnessed this time did lead me to the conclusion that some folks are either bent on pi**ing someone off, trashing their cars, trashing someone else's cars or seeing someone get seriously hurt.

Whilst I fully appreciate that I didn't have to go "the roundabout" most of what I saw was at best stupid (which I can handle) and at worst b.... dangerous. Track focussed cars are ment to grip thats why they don't slide well. Four or six wheel drives ditto, several tonnes of vehicle with a high centre of gravity is a recipie for disaster on a tight corner. Most (not all) drivers were trusting a fairly pissed and rowdy crowd to not do somthing unexpected. There appeared to be very little consideration to the possiblity of something going wrong. Hence the number of bumps / near misses. Beer, p*ss and wine have no place in someones car and or face. And don't start me on fire works on crowded campsites.

Maybe I am a miserable old git but it does seem only a matter of time before there is a tradgy, all in the name of fun of course. The 356 crash highlights that (Anymore news on how those guys are btw?)

Having said all of the above the racing was Ace, the atmos unbeatable and it is still the best weekend of the year. I will be back.

so if this trend continues next year I will be looking for an alternative.

Too right - haven't been to the main LM bash for a couple of years. I'm a first timer to the LM Classic in couple of weeks and stay one step ahead of the mindless morons.

Someone once told me that CHAV stands for Council House And Violent and was marked on the top of your signing on papers or similar. The main LM seems to have filled up with PUCH's - Pi55ed Up Chinless Hoorays.

Agreed. We wont be going anymore either - it was embarrasing showing my guests around. It is just turning into a mindless chav lagerfest.

their acoustic properties are quite special and hugely understated by audiophiles.
