Afternoon all,

Getting closer now!

So, accommodation booked, tickets bought, car stickered up, survival kit at the ready.....BUT, one nagging question.

What happens if (touch wood) my Lotus Elise (or any of the 6 cars in our group) should break down on route - and it be a irreparable problem ?

Does everyone have European breakdown cover on their policy for the repatriation of their trophy cars home?

I wouldn't want it to be repaired in France by a non -specialist, nor would I want to leave it on the road side or tow it anywhere?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick

Get AA 5 Star or something similar.
As with any insurance it is only good if you need it, but if you do need to use it (as I have on several occasions), It's money very well spent.

I've bought this http://www.vehicle-rescue.com/ the last couple of years, seems to be sensible cover and very fair price compared to RAC/AA. But I haven't needed to use it so untested in that sense...

Thanks for the link, this is something I've been looking for too. That looks a good deal; but I hope I don't need to test it.

That's handy to know - we get RAC European Cover via our bank account.

+1

We get our european breakdown cover via ACO, so perhaps a handy tie in.

I get Green Flag through bank.

I had an engine loom problem in UK last year, and they dealt with that admirably.

ADAC gets some very good press on here. Pretty reasonable rates too - and as you'd expect for a German organisation, very efficient.

Ive used recovery plenty times on lemans trips, I'm sorry to say.
First trip to leman, my cossie spat its diffs planet gears out around 30km from leman. Second trip and the turbo'd Capri we were in twisted and snapped its propshaft. Sixth trip and we snapped a conrod on the civic typeR we were driving (a good one that....search youtube for "civic type r goes bang....Im at the very end with my big shades on).
Out of all the recovery services, the best one had to be the recovery that came with my cossies insurance. Hire cars provided both in France and England, and best of all the cossie was waiting for me at home after I returned from lemans.
AA recovery for the civic sucked as it was relay. After a tiring lemans trip, to be shunted around from recovery truck to another to another was too much effort.

So who was it that your insurance used Stu for the Cosworth? Always used AA before but if it's a pain happy to try another option.

The card just says Heritage rescue line.....I'll dig out the paper work tomorrow and see if I can find who the actual company is.

B'ana,
Search in the Tuscan forum.

Chap had problems with MBE ecu down in S.France a few years ago.
ADAC dealt with recovery to UK - garage of choice, supplied/organised hire car in France to continue holiday and had another standing by in UK when owner came off ferry. All very slick and efficient.
