Afternoon all,
Third trip for us this year, really fancy attempting some black ops – perhaps during night quail rather than the race as we are travelling down Wednesday this time. I would appreciate any info on where to aim for, how to go about it, general insights – keen to do it but don’t want to be wandering around for hours lost in the pitch black/outrunning french plod. PM info if better than posting in the open…
cheers

I've enjoyed getting trackside a few times on the approach to the Porsche curves but not been to the Mulsanne side yet.

We have walked through the woods from Beausejour to the oustide of indianapolis before. There is a sort of marshalls camping area there. Seemed to be tolerated as long as you are modest in number and not dicking about and we walked through a couple of "check points" unchallenged. It is very easy to get lost in the pitch black though so would advise prior planning via google earth, being reasonably sober, a torch and even a compass depending on how good your sense of direction is. I think the thing that upsets the locals most is if you are clearly trapsing throuh their garden / vegetable patch etc. Understandable.
Depends if you want to drive or walk ?
If you're driving one of the more interesting points to explore from is Café des Hunadieres which is not overly easy to find but anyway here goes - go past Tetre Rouge pub carry straight on if you can, turn right at the end, take the first right down to the roundabout turn left and at 2nd roundabout turn right which should bring you into the field behind the Chinese and the Café. On foot from here either way gives great access to the Mulsanne before the first chicane. Sounds complicated I know but with all the road closures there's really only one way to go.
If you fancy being a bit less black ops just go to the hotel on the Mulsanne, pay your 15 euro or so and have a beer sitting in the garden right next to the Armco
