Dates for LE MANS 2006
Discussion
I think it usually takes place on the weekend nearest the longest day of the year, so next year it may well be the weekend of 17th/18th June. The ACO and tour agents don't normally confirm until Oct or Nov.

For a start, Coming from Dublin, we went the longest way round possible. Drove straight from midnight to 4.30pm that day , only stopping once for the tunnel and diesel.
We got there Friday afternoon, Thursday would be better to get settled properly and to get supplies from Carrefour before they sell out.
Bring a GAZEBO.
Bring more people, there were 3 of us, a gang would be better.
Bring a GAZEBO
We only saw night racing because of the gents beside us brought us to Arnage and Mullsanne in their discovery. We hadn't a clue where they were and would'nt have gone if it wasn't for the lads. Getting there on thursday means that you can suss out the place on Friday before the crowds come.
Bring fold up chairs or buy the €3 jobbies in Carrefour and leave them there. CF is great for supplies but don't try going on Saturday afternoon! Barely got back for the start of the race.
Figure out a way of bringing something to keep beer cool. Cooler boxes kinda work, but CF runs out of ice quickly on Saturday. So we bought bags of frozen chips. Worked a dream. Hiring an ice machine next year.
Bring a BBQ, leave it there (smelly in the car)
Buy a paddling pool. Enough said.
Figure out how to get to Le Mans. We had written directions from a site that was metre by metre perfect, I'll find out who it was for you.
Arranging to meet people is difficult without mobiles, so make sure it works.
Don't do what I did. Dublin Ferry terminal. No Tickets. Nothing. Not one.
You learn alot on the first year. Mainly from watching all the really organised efficient people laughing at you and your pissed mates fumbling with your tent for 3 hours and burning your food.
Just go. Bring a tent, a bbq and money for Carrefour for everything else. You'll cop on pretty quick and start dreaming about next year. I've started planning already.

.
Dubs seem to have covered most of the planning. As for road by road typed directions try this site: www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp?database=E
I've been 4 times and always learn something new for the next year. We go Thursday to Monday, which does give you time to set up camp & settle in and claim a good camp spot if you choose a 'first come ,first served' campsite . Also the nearby supermarket stocks will still be in good supply before the weekend rush.
And leave plenty of travel time so you can put up your tent in daylight, and a few 3 ft bamboo sticks and string come in handy too for marking your pitch ...

Sorry folks, Forgot to get the directions
We used these from the t.w.a.t.s website:
Le Mans Directions
As I said, virtually metre by metre perfect. But theres probably lots of sites that do equally good directions.
Seriously, bring a tent, money and clothes. BBQ optional. Thats all we brought this year. It's a blast. Everyone will tailor what they bring according to personal preferences, so listen in here, get some ideas, and then go.

Here's the latest so far I've found fro B/M website. Reckon this is the most info you'll get until it's confirmed...
Unconfirmed dates - 10th/11th June 2006
The ACO have not yet confirmed this date. However, the race normally takes place on the 24th weekend of the year.
Please be aware that the World Cup (9th June - 9th July) sometimes makes the ACO change from this rule, so keep an eye on our forum where our team of Beermountain "experts" will keep you up to speed.
