Recieved this today ...

Dear Mr Vaughan

Speed one has been withdrawn from service on the 12/06/06 at 21.10 for
technical maintenance.
This unfortunately means the crossing you are booked on is no longer in
service.
SpeedFeries does not have an inter-availability agreement with alternative
ferry operators so we are unable to transfer any passengers.
Your booking can be transfered to an alternative departure, put on hold or
refunded.
Please call us on the following numbers to discuss these options. Alternatively
you can email dutymanager@speedferries.com

+44 (0) 1304 242173 (24 hrs)
+44 (0) 870 2200570

Speedferries wish to express our most sincere apologies over this matter.
Should you have already been contacted by a member of SpeedFerries staff,
please ignore this message

Kind Regards

SpeedFerries Ltd

S1mon.

Doesn't really compare with the £38 I paid SpeedFerries - fortunately I'm not travelling on June 12. Those who were might like to check Norfolkline. It does to Dunkirk so is a bit further to drive but they seem doing a £38 deal too: www.norfolkline.com

No wonder P&O has plenty of availability at £110!

This gets bloody (can I say that?) worse...

Just called SpeedFerrys to cancel my crossing .. They are willing to offer me a refund on the outward crossing date, but donot refund the whole journey. so I cannot get to France with them on the 12th .. but they will let me come home on the 21st !!!....

Cheap they may be .... but I am never going to use them again.

Letter writing time I think.

Thats INSANE!

Not quite.

Speed One is being taken out for service for maintenance at 21.30 on the Monday before Le Mans. It seems only one sailing is affected as they still list the 17.40 on the 12th and the 7.00 on the 13th.

That doesn't excuse them not agreeing to refund the return trip cost though. If jv loses out it may be no more than £.19.

Hang on a mo.

They have had to withdraw the last crossing to Calais on a Monday for maintenance. Probably going to be a busy week ahead so that is the best time if any to take it out.

One of the big selling points with Speed ferries is that you buy a one way ticket or two one ways if you need a return. This broke the strangle hold of the ferries only selling returns at vastly inflated costs over a 3 day trip.

They offered to refund or reschedule the trip which couldn't be done.

Their biggest problem is that they only have the one boat. Compare that to the level of service and value you get from the ferry operators and I personnaly think they are a very good value alternative. I have had hassle travelling to and from France with all operators including the tunnel, Speedferries and the regular ferry operators, but I am modt impressed with Speedferries. By all means write to Curt Stavis. He seems to be in the Richard Branson mould in being approable

Surely you'd think the maintenance of a big boat can be planned months in advance? not like in a car when you don't quite know when you will hit 10000 miles...

Wey Hey ....

Sent an email to the MD @ SpeedFerries... and got a response. One of his minions just called and, offered me 100% refund. I am very happy. still p155ed that I had to change ferries, but happy I got my money back.

They have even offered me a return journey to france, to be taken anytime within the next 12 months which really shocked me. all I wanted was my money back im now a happy bunny.
I shall continue to use the underdog if that is an example of their customer service.

That's the sort of service that gets you customers and goodwill.

I'm heading out on the 6pmish P&O on the 12th but would have been on the cancelled SpeedFerries one if i was paying

Pleased to hear it. I've used SpeedFerries four or five times a year and always found their customer service to be good - like when I change car details and they've never charged me the £10 ammendment fee (SSSShhhh!)
