Single trip breakdown cover for cars 16yrs and older
Discussion
As the title says, who are you guys using for your le mans and le mans classic trips?
Eurotunnel do not cater for older cars and sadly it seems AXA will only cover cars under 16 yrs.
Not looking for an annual policy, just a single trip one with recovery to the uk/hire car. I have tried those compare sites to no good effect

I can't help with the 16 year old car but I can offer up what I've paid for my e92 BMW with RAC, full costs of repatriating and hotels etc for £42. Had to negotiate the price down.
I have no idea what a BMW e92 is? If its under 16yrs old its irrelevant to the threadIf you want cheap single trip cover you can't beat "Vehicle Rescue Direct" but they are underwritten by AXA insurance who only cover cars up to 15 yrs, after that the price seems to Triple with other insurance companies!
Eurotunnel will not cover classics either. (if you can call a 16yr old car a Classic)

We often went through AA or RAC, we had a 15 - 20 year old car and it was around £100 all the years
we took it down. However at least one of us were AA members
Car insurance co may offer something.
Also both RAC and AA seem to send vans down for the week and I have seen them attend cars in the campsite
with no membership.

I think I paid about £85 for my 1966 Midget last year, I need to get the price for this year now
After having to use their system the year before when my clutch concentric unit failed near Pont L'eveque en-route to the ferry, I promised my self I'd not go abroad without it in future
I got garage attention and storage, hotel overnight, repatriation of self and car separately and hire car home from the ferry
That kind of service is worth paying for when you find you need it
Reading this makes me look like an advert for an ex-employer
I still mean it though, top service from them
They have a European control centre in France all summer which seems to help things happen

I've never thought about telling my breakdown company the age of my TVR (1988) and they never asked me - we have personal cover, so any car we are in or driving. I did call them once last year when the fuel pump played up. The chap who turned up never said anything either. I'm with LV

I used to work for theAA and I will be getting AA Five Star for all trips abroad in future
Not because I worked for them but simply based on how well they treated me two years ago, the service they gave when I was feeling as if I'd been kicked in the afore said goolies was amazing
I really felt "Lost In France" but they just made it all so easy after the car died
Their garage couldn't get me a replacement clutch plate or they would have had me back en route next day anyway so they repatriated me and car separately
(the clutch plate is a special hybrid made to mate my A series engine to a Ford type 9, only available from an MG dealer in Oldbury)
You were pretty lucky there then as AA don`t normally cover vehicles with strange modifications on/to engines etc.
I have today got 9 day cover inclusive of re-pat,etc etc for £84 as an AA member, not including parts and labour. Its petrol/lpg so probably recovery all the way home anyway it there`s a problem.
