it's not about deals is it. It's about how to con the tax man. Just because you're currently getting away with it doesn't mean it's permitted, and just because it's loosely related to car leasing doesn't mean it's on topic.
Just as it doesn't mean that because you desperately want to be a moderator, that you are one.
You're just making yourself look a bit daft.

Nah. If I was a mod I would have to be diplomatic and not tell you to go fk yourself. For example.
He does have a point though. I don't wish to speak on BSWs behalf, but who the Fuchs do you think you are? Some self proclaimed vigilante of the forum? LOLz

E300 Hybrid has the money thrown at it this quarter.
We just took delivery of one. A very good deal direct with MB so no broker fees (sorry Siovey!) they also made a cock up so we got another £10 off per month.
I haven't driven it yet but mpg is apparently worse than the c250 it replaced at under 50mpg. 69mpg is claimed.

Looks like a decent deal. Broadspeed says you can buy the car for £32k so pcp with a similar deposit would probably be a little more expensive. Still £10k over two years though... decisions, decisions.
I think thats a good deal. The only one I found that bettered that was Drayton Mercedes who quoted me 6+23 at £341 a month, but they never followed up with a formal quote

Still mcbooks link works out at £10,266 over 2 years vs the deal on MB website which works out at £17,885 (£365pcm + 5k deposit) so look at it as him saving you £7.5k rather than you spending £10k.

And no, ive not sorted myself out yet!
Thesse guys have stock....

£9,474 over 2 years, thats cheap motoring and a lot of metal, thats the cheapest I have seen
i suspect you'd get a better deal from MB direct...

Thanks for that. Very helpful...

Does your company choose the cars which go on the scheme?
Sort of - as it's a green company they went with, they set the cap for the CO2 emissions, rather than picking the line up of cars. The company is salarysacrifice4cars if I remember correctly... Think their website had a different name, but Googling for that should get you there if you're keen to learn more. They might explain how it all works - can't remember if you needed to sign in before you could read that or not tho...

According to various owners over on MBClub they do take a few thousand to start loosening up. One chap is averaging an easy 65mpg on his 60 mile daily commute and reported 74mpg one day (I think he tries *really* hard).

That's the one! I'm sure I had to sign in to see the prices (I guess because the car list is company specific), but you'll get the general gist from the stuff you can see before then I should think.

A few pages back there is a ridiculously cheap A6 avant 313 bi-turbo black edition offer which is down as personal, but has a condition that applicants must be entitled to a car/fuel allowance.

Has anybody here applied, and if so what proof was required? I'm starting a new job in a few months and I found out on Friday that I'll be getting a £6250pa car allowance as a perk which I can take as cash. At 40% tax it leaves me with c£315 a month which I would top-up to get this offer, but seeing as offers are strict I want to know of it's as clear cut as it sounds in the app process...

TIA

It actually gives you more money than that. Usually people are offered either a company car or cash allowance and its the difference between the 2 which gives the cash available to spend on your own car. With a company car you'll be paying company car tax. For me that would be £250 - £275 for an A6 or 5 Series, add that to my car allowance and the opportunity cost of not taking a company car is £575pcm - £300 car allowance plus tax of £275pcm.

oh do pack it in. It's morally dubious and definitely off topic, and that's all there is to it.

Without wishing to turn this into a company car thread, could you explain my position as I've never had a company car before, and this 'cash' was simply a sweetener on top of the salary, to persuade me to take the job. In short I get the choice of a company car, or I can take the equivalent of £6250pa as a cash alternative which I assume I'll be taxed at my upper rate of 40%?

Given what you say, how do I work out what 'cash' I will have each month to put towards this 'personal' lease if I were to take it out?

Hoping someone on this leasing thread can offer some advice before I start a new topic for it.

How does leasing compare to buying a used car?
I would like to know the basic pros and cons and when if at all it would make financial sense?

Thanks

Buying a car is exactly the same as buying a house:

  • Buying with 100% your own cash (no debt) = full ownership;
  • Buying with debt (loan) = partial ownership;
  • Ballooning = renting to buy;
  • Leasing = renting only.
In a nutshell -- broadly speaking -- the wealthier you are, the higher up that ladder you can rise.

Financially -- the total cost of ownership (TCO) over the number of years you plan to "own" the car is the only proper way to work out which option is right for you personally.

Get the car list and find out what car you'd likely take. Go here (comcar.co.uk) and work out how much BIK tax you'd pay for the use of that car. Then add that to the net income you get from the cash they give you.

Buying used you know what you are paying, and if loose your job your sell the car and clear the finance, with a lease you have to pay the full term regardless.

The benefit with leasing is it is generally cheaper.
