Buy a used car with 131, 000 miles on it or lease a new one with zero miles on it, are you serious?
When it comes to something as vanilla as a 520D for £360 a month, then yeah I am hehe
Perfect mileage for the engine to eat the swirl flaps and for the turbo and dpf to go.

And it's a manual. Who drives a manual 5 Series?

No idea but yes mine is a big engine. Very big.

To be fair that 520D was just the first on the AT list with a FBMWSH. I guess my comment is that I don't see the value in jizzing 8.5k to sit in a soon-to-be-replaced 520D for two years.

Quite frankly, at that price, I'd buy one.

The new car vs old car debate is futile.

All I'll continue to add is that a 2 litre diesel 5-series / A6 @ £8-9k is not good deal, which is the main point of this thread.

Quite possibly the links you've been sharing.

What I meant, in the context of other cars available, then 5-series/A6 are not good value right now.
But if you must have one of those cars in 2 litre diesel form, then just take the best that's available right now.

The best deals are almost always had buy those willing to be flexible.

This is the crux of leasing for me. When my current lease is close to ending I will be looking for the best deal rather than a specific car. I have some things in mind that I'd like, but the deal is the driving factor.

Quite. I watched various deals go by - Golf R, Merc E class and settled on the recent Golf R Estate. I don't do many miles and have a fair flexibility in usage.

Drive any old thing to feel you are saving a few quid? No thanks, life's too short.

Yup. With the recent Golf R deal, it was staggeringly good - I paid less and got something faster and more competent that the A4 Avant / BMW 520d estate that I was previously considering... wink

Anyone happen to remember the Audi TT S-line deal that was from a few months back? Can't find it in the thread. Wondering if this is comparable at all. Thanks

I ordered a TT Ultra S-line on 22/01/2016 from CVL (ready for delivery on 13/05/2016)

Ignoring £180 admin:
2400 initial + 23 x 179.99 monthly = total £6539.77
5k miles 7.2ppm excess = +£720 for 10k miles = total for comparison £7260

Your deal above works out at £7392 for the same terms (assuming you have to pay admin fee)

Although I suspect a fishy post as for the same price they only show the 1.8T Sport on their website:

You've misunderstood me, or not read the various posts, understandable since this has gone on a few pages now.

For 'only' a few £ more he can have a 335d xdrive, a 3.0TDi A6 etc etc.
But he has a budget, like we all do. Within his budget, verses other cars available, a £8-9k 2.0TDi A6 does not represent good value.

I thought that about the Passat Alltrack deal. Then when it was gone it suddenly seemed like a decent car.

Would love to go for a 335d but need to take insurance costs in consideration.
The A6 Allroad is very unattractive with the plastic part around the bumpers and arches + the alloys are horrible hence the cheap deals for a 3.0tdi?

I don't think they mean anything... for instance if you wanted a hot hatch you might be considering a Fiesta ST, 208 GTi or Clio 200.

The Fiesta ST was £145 p/m for ages a while back.
The 208 GTi peaked low at £125 p/m
The Clio 200 has always been far more (between £1,500 - £2,500 more over a 2 year term iirc)

You wouldn't go for the Clio 200 would you. You'd go for the deal, as long as it was the type of car you wanted. Thus, why I've never seen one on the road!

Although, I think all leasing is a waste of money wink

Great thanks for sharing that smile

Do you remember if you got one of the better deals around at the time? Seems like a good deal to me and I'm super surprised that you managed to bag 7.2ppm on it! Good job! You must be excited, not long now. What colour did you go for?

I'm fully behind the argument to be flexible when considering leases. But I also want something of reasonable size, with creature comforts (I'm getting old frown ) that at least goes OK, but doesn't gulp fuel.

The contrary argument to the above is that for £8-9k you could end up in an ordinary VW Passat/BMW 3 series/Audi A4 rather than a well equipped, roomy, "premium exec" ....

I'm very flexible on my requirements - I could have had one of the Golf R Estates, but having looked at them close up couldn't imagine spending 2 or more years in it, however fast it might be...

I'm not considering Merc's as both my wife and I currently have C class of different flavours, so want a change.

The current prices for the 5 series and A6 represent very good value against previous offers, and no doubt against future prices for the new models....
