Anyone know about purchasing the car after a personal lease contract expires? Are they open to offers?
In theory you shouldn't be able to buy the car at the end of the lease. But the reality is that's for business leases due to the tax breaks on leases, so for a personal deal there shouldn't be a problem. Having said that, I've never heard of anyone being offered a car really cheap at the end of the deal, lease companies normally get greedy and price themselves out of the market.

Gah, called them up and even after speaking to the manager they said no. They wouldn't even tell me where it's likely to be auctioned....gotta keep them residuals high eh!
I don't know but I wonder if there is some tax reason why they cannot sell to the leaser.Perhaps the whole transaction gets treated by the taxman/Financial reguator as a Hire Purchase/PCP agreement instead of a hire agreement to start with, and changes the cost and moves the tax liability to a different schedule?
So that extra cost just gets plonked on to the price they quote to the leaser.

It's not the end of the world but was worth asking.
I'd just assumed a deal could be done where they got more than the auction price and I bought for less than main dealer price. Obviously there's more to it than that.
Probably makes better sense for the lease companies to do the selling on and cut out the middle man anyway.
Have you signed up to the auction sites? BCA Mannheim - you could probably find it.I'd just assumed a deal could be done where they got more than the auction price and I bought for less than main dealer price. Obviously there's more to it than that.

I have managed to negotiate a small discount of the best rates shown on CH&L.com for a VW Tiguan SEL 2wd DSG 8kpa - I have a rate on a 9 + 23 @ £217 + VAT and a full tank of fuel on delivery.
It was about £500 more over the term than a SE Nav but the spec is so much better and the list price difference is almost £2k.
I wanted 10kpa but the price difference makes it cheaper to get the 8k and pay the excess at the end!

Not sure how much difference in lease payments the DSG makes, but I am looking around for the same car with manual gearbox. Best quotes I have around around £223 inc vat 9+23. I am trying to get one under £7k over the two years though. It was about £500 more over the term than a SE Nav but the spec is so much better and the list price difference is almost £2k.
