Just had a call from my leasing company (LeaseplanGo) regarding the end of my 2 year Golf R deal. Apparently due to the flood of cars coming onto the market and the collapse in residuals they don't really want the cars back. So I've been offered the opportunity to keep the car INDEFINITELY for the same monthly payment and still get the advantage of free servicing, tyres and road tax. My car had only done 12k miles so was didn't really want to give it back in September and go for another similar car and pay another deposit. I'm paying £250/month for a 5 door manual with maintenance.
Has anyone else been offered this and what are your plans?
When does your lease end?Has anyone else been offered this and what are your plans?
My lease is with VW finance, so not sure what their take on it would be.....got 5 months to go.

Hi All,
Slightly off topic, but I'm chatting to a guy called Scott at Central UK Vehicle Leasing, and just about to push the button on a 520d Touring. Has anyone here dealt with this company? Are they ok?
Thanks,
J.
I have missed out on 2 deals with them (Golf R and Alltrack), so my experience isn't particularly positive, however I think this was just due to demand. My dad ordered his A Class through them and had no issues.Slightly off topic, but I'm chatting to a guy called Scott at Central UK Vehicle Leasing, and just about to push the button on a 520d Touring. I'm with them and I've not had any such offer. I would take them up on it either. Sounds dubious to me! It's not their car, it belongs to VWFSHas anyone else been offered this and what are your plans?
This is my experience with my Golf R lease through VW finance, my DSG 3 door was originally £246 a month based on 5k miles, done a deal with them to reflect my higher mileage and this made it £311 for the last 8 months or so which I was happy with. Deals ends in October and I phoned them last week to see about extending it for another 12 months on 12k miles and the offer is now £374 per month for another 12 months. I'm pretty disappointed with that as it makes no sense to keep it longer when I factor in the new tyres that I will need.
I am really tempted by an i3.
I don't do that many miles these days, and most of them are fairly local. The most I would probably do in a day would be 90 miles and with the new 94ah i3 that would be fine.
Most of my driving is in rush hour, so there's really no need for a ~360bhp car that does 25MPG. I've actually worked out it would be cheaper for me to lease an i3 than keep the 335i.
This deal amortised is £285.73pcm. I've worked out that with petrol, RFL and maintenance I'm paying about £300pcm for the 335i.
I could sell all the after-market parts on my 335i for about £1k, and the car for about £7k I would expect.
I know it's not very PH, and I do really love driving the 335i, but it's very tempting. I could always do a track-day hire once a year or something to scratch the itch.
Hmm.
Who's the i3 expert? What's the story with the interior trim and spec levels etc?
(Oh, I've got a day test drive lined up on Friday!)

I'm also with leaseplango and my two year lease is due to end in a few weeks. I rang them last month to discuss options and the possibility of extending the Golf R. I pay £280 a month including maintenance, they said from now on the price will be £340 if I chose to keep it longer. Id be interested who you spoke with so I can come up with the same deal. I'm currently looking at PCP's but it's looking expensive on the cars I like.
Cheers

I don't think it can just be a leaseplango thing; I'd have thought that it has to be down to VWFS. So, if this is genuine, it would be open to anyone. I suspect it's just a massive time waste though, and doesn't actually pan out, for whatever reason. Fundamentally I really don't believe that VW would be so stupid as to fund these deals for the length of time they did, if they hadn't factored in that flooding the market would dump residuals. The whole point of leasing is to for the funder to get the car back, over-charge for damage and then sell it on at a profit. The business model is fked if they don't do that.
Sorry, while I agree with the general point, I can't agree with your definition of "the whole point of leasing".... Over charging for damage is yesterday's model. Blown2CV said:

Hi chaps,
Some of you maybe interested in this as it has a more reasonable mileage allowance:
GOLF DSG 5 door with NAV
15k p.a
6+23
£217+VAT
Works out to be £314 p/m when the VAT is included and upfront cost is spread over the term.
How does that sound?
Looks like it's a business only deal, in the process of finding out if it's open to personal customers too.

Link?
It's the golf GTD with DSG box. Local dealer, apparently national deal with limited availability. Don't want to name my dealer until I've made my mind up as I have one reserved - hope you understand. Assume your local dealer would be able to assist.
Seems a decent deal with the 15k mileage allowance?

Anyway we are really talking about here is an instance where they are supposedly happy to just carry on the lease "indefinitely", presumably with ad-hoc agreements, at the same price and with full maintenance. I'm calling balls.

They still overcharge, and by that I mean they charge more than they will pay out to fix, in every instance. On a fair wear and tear car they won't do much... maybe some very cheap dent removal and touch-up/buffing for next to no money, to turn it into a really food example for top money. For moderate damage they'll prob just send it out as is rather than waste time on it - they'll still make money at auction, and they've clawed some back from previous user.
I'd be amazed if they ever spend money fixing cars. Surely they just punt them out at auction "as is" and let the buyers fix them up?Also, it's the same whenever you sell a car. The buyer/trader will want to knock you down on price for any defect MORE than they think it's going to cost THEM to fix. Those that don't will be out of business pretty quickly.

Yes but the example here is a parallel to them not buying a car, not selling a car and just watering plants and eating biscuits in the office instead.
Maybe they're playing the long game, and hoping you'll keep leasing at £250/month when the car's value has dropped to peanuts. Or maybe they expect it to start appreciating!Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
