Hi there,

Do you chaps tend to arrange GAP insurance through the supplying dealer or sort your own policy?
If the latter, any recommendations?

I've been informed GAP insurance could be a wise move since in the event of total loss I'd be liable for any difference between insurance company pay out and car's value.
I normally get it with another supplier ALA insurance have been decent and cheap in the past.

I was considering the same, also on a Golf and was going to do it through my ltd company but showing all the payments as a directors loan. You could also set the DD payments to come out of your personal account and then the accounts would have no reflection of this situation. Then effectively you're using the LTD company to facilitate the lease.

Technically HMRC may take the view that it is a company car and should be taxed as such but as long as none of the payments were tax deductions you could argue your case. Plus it's only one car, not a fleet for the whole family or for staff.
Do NOT do this, there is established case law that says that this is a company car, even if it's paid for with your personal money: http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKFTT/TC/2010/TC004...

Choices. Going to look at the following two on Saturday with a view to order ASAP so here before the years out.

Both deals over 3 years 10k p/a and for the Wife.

Octavia VRS Tdi estate for £2.8k per year

or

C200 petrol Wagon amg sport spec for £3.5k per year.

I'm fully expecting the bread knife to be knocked over with the Merc bling, but think the Skoda will be a better drive and CHEAPER.

Thoughts and other options, max budget £3.5k per year, estate and not too high on the C/C tax.

Can't comment on the Merc nor do I know anything about the ins and outs of company cars/ allowance.

Had a vRS (hatch) that will be going back in around 6 months. Great all round car, spacious, big boot, comfortable on long journeys, power is handy for overtaking particularly on the motorway handles well enough. In other words a good all rounder. I view lease cars as white good, get something that suits your needs for the least £ possible and don't get caught up in particular makes/models. If it were a private lease I'd see £8400 Vs £10500 and think is the Merc a better car for just over 2K?

The deals are for business so obviously prices are ex VAT, if still interested let me know.

I have been weighing up 24 or 36 months and the difference in PCM payments is only very marginal, however it will need tires and a service inside the 36 month period where as I might get away with nothing inside the 24 months.

Your thoughts appreciated.

Couple of questions for a 1st time leaser expecting delivery in approx 6-7 weeks that I'd like your views/advice on

Car being leased direct from Land Rover

- Do I need to obtain GAP insurance? if so anyone that is recommended?
- Can I transfer my private plate to the car as I understand that i won't be the registered keeper on the V5 (Land rover will?) or does that just create a whole world of pain when it comes to taking off at the end of the lease?
- Any recommendations for lease friendly insurance companies?

Thanks in advance

Check your insurance policy. NFU Mutual will pay out for a new car for cars up to two years old. Liverpool Victoria and Nationwide will do this for cars up to 1 year old.

If you decide you need GAP insurance, the supplying dealer is rarely the cheapest.

Any reason why you're comparing a diesel v petrol? A diesel C Class is around a tenner a month more than the petrol, is it better on tax as well? MPG would be better, but at 10k pa not the end of the world

-It would be wise to get GAP, considering how cheap it is.
-You can put private plate from beginning of the lease and then take it out 4-6 weeks before the end. Leasing company will do the work for you and then you will receive reg plate paperwork back. And you have to arrange for new plates.
-Use comparison website and choose private leased.

Simply put I was struggling to find a decent deal on the C220d in manual, all seem to be slush boxes. Any pointers gratefully received.

Ooops! If you're going to take the Mick you've got to at least try and be 100% correct in what you do.

My missus used to do NI compliance checks. "Those cars don't belong to anyone who works for the company, they're used by Directors wives" was quite common.

I was looking for a cheap run around car and found a cracking deal on a C1 - £1500 down and £35 a month for 23 months...in the end I settled for a Mokka (Diesel Auto) as I thought 2 years is a long time, and would rather have something a little more practical. At £150 a month and £900 down a bargain in my eyes. Definitely less than the depreciation on what is a £24k car.

I saw this deal on a C1 (1.2 puretech) on an 18 month contract with 10000 miles.

http://www.freedomcontracts.com/Citroen-C1-5Dr-Air...

£1200 down and £36 a month

or

£485 down and £80 a month

Is it any good?!

In the last two weeks I have spoken to a Volkswagen dealer and a lease company who use Ford finance regarding a lease car. When I mentioned GAP insurance they both said a complete waste of money and you do not need it.
