It's literally the same as a petrol station - open flap, insert. That's it. Plus the charger cable will be lighter and not covered in petrol/diesel.
You then come out in the morning to a fully charged car. I adore not having to visit a fuel station anymore.

This is the reality. Most of us EV converts also have petrol cars and experience first hand the sheer awfulness of having to pump toxic liquid hydrocarbons into them, while at the same time knowing that 80% of it is going to be wasted as heat, noise and pollution (mainly heat).

There are very, very few occasions when I walk out of my front door and choose one of the petrol cars over the EV. They're like well worn, old pairs of shoes that you can't bear to throw out really. One of these days I'll have a spring clean and do the right thing.

Why the vitriol?

If, like Wormus, you drive a Discovery long distances then I get why you would baulk at the idea of an EV. There simply isn't one that will do the same job. And, at the same price, there won't be any time soon. But there is no need to constantly have a go at others who live different lives.

I am on my third EV used as a daily. Before these I did 80,000 miles in a C7 RS6 followed by a B9 RS4 - both dailies - and, for what I do, my latest EV is better than both in every way except the noise. And a lot more reliable (kiss of death....). Both Audis were terrible, mainly due to recurrent DRC issues.

Equally, if you have an EV and understand the attractions, get a thicker skin and try and ignore those who don't get it.

We all like driving - that's what we share.

I know I am naive, but at least I am happy

My car has been in the garage for a few days so I was given a VW Tiguan diesel as a courtesy car. It was a perfectly adequate vehicle but would have struggled to be more boring if it tried but the thing that irked me the most was returning it this afternoon I dutifully filled it up and my hands stank of diesel which unlike petrol smells disgusting and is greasy as. Rotten stuff. I don’t recall ever getting petrol on my hands just from picking up the pump before and my charger cable hasn’t deposited anything disgusting on my hands yet so I second the hatred of diesel as a fuel even if it does give a vehicle a range that exceeds the capacity of even the most dehydrated individuals bladder.

I'm a wheelchair user and when I had a diesel I found it incredibly irritating to get diesel spills on my wheelchair tyres. Very hard to get off.

I have never owned a diesel and not driven one regularly since 2004 so it was a bit of oversight on my part. I have never used gloves to fill a petrol car and nor do I have to do so to use my charger at home so diesel gets docked a point for that.

The Tiguan is very Germanic. Functional, reasonably well put together save the crashy suspension but also extremely dull. Perfect for moving a couple of kids about for someone who doesn’t take any pleasure from driving I reckon.

Yes, plenty of disposable gloves available at any filling station if required. The guy who had the leaking hose is lucky to be alive clearly...

March I did 741 miles which took 31 hours 27 mins.

That includes a twice weekly 76 mile journey which takes 2 hours.

166 trips in total.
