Would be rude not to share the £14,995 BMW 330D I just listed for sale last week, I've owned for four years....
That aside.
Of vehicles I've owned that I enjoyed chomping up and down the motorways in:
2012 X5 30D
2014 Audi SQ5
2015 Skoda Superb L&K edition
2015 BMW 330D
2016 435D Gran Coupe
Of the lot, the 330D would be my go to for motorway miles.
I'd also be inclined to try an Audi A4/A6 & Merc C350.
Of the two BMW engines I've owned - 30D and 35D. I prefer the 30D. The 35D felt like it constantly had the power there, a tap of the throttle at any time, you get a good chunk of power and that was fun.
But the 30D to my mind, strikes a better balance between cruising with smooth acceleration, and being able to drop a gear and engage the turbo when you really want to have some fun or make an overtake. It's a more relaxing and enjoyable driving experience overall.
I feel like you'll get a lot more 3 series for your £15k, than with a 5 series. But I'm sure theres merit in a 5 series if its extra space you need.
