Great work on the LS Alex, sounds like a mega-bargain.

Could be a lovely car if it's as good as it appears.

Splendid.
Someone needs to buy this, before that someone is me
I wonder if the seller is on PH. The name "tbops" has some history IIRC. May just be a remarkable coincidence.

It’s really nice, but seeing that Colin Ferns invoice makes me shiver.

Am I missing something, never heard of them, I’m guessing you’ve had a bad experience?

I also think it's the sheer damn weight of the LS460 that is the reason it gets through control arms so quickly.

I have shopped around and it does seem the OEM ones are still the way to go, but I'll find a specialist to fit them.

Cleaned up the front headlights today: before/after

New grill arrives tomorrow which I hope fixes the front radar issue. Not that it's causing me any inconvenience but I'm a bit OCD about warning lights.
Any idea if it's had a replacement rad at any point? Good practice to do so on the LS430 and 460. If memory serves corrosion can cause the tranny cooler circuit and engine circuit to combine!

Took me a leisurely day, start to finish. Plus while you are in there you do a new water pump, new coolant, and I replaced the pipes and accessory belt too.

If you haven't already got a friendly Lexus parts desk try https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/ for parts, they're a dealer who sells online with a discount. Where longer lead times aren't an issue, Amayama in Japan and Rockauto in the USA are both good too. (However I've had parts from Japan in 4 days a few times, so hardly a long wait).

@Alex
Presumably you masked off the bodywork and used some sort of abrasive paste to polish the headlights ?

Yep, I just used this:
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/car...

I didn't mask off the body work but didn't go close to the edges, It actually didn't look any better until I put the protective coating on.

I'm not sure it has. It hasn't got anything in the pile of invoices. I'll take a look at it and see how it looks.

I've heard Amayama mentioned a few times, will check them out.

My previous LS460 had a slow rad leak and was quoted about £1,200 for a new one fitted.

A repeat owner, that warms the cockles of the heart of someone who isn't sure if he's just been lucky so far!

As there aren't many UK based LS460 resources (what with it being fairly rare, and bought by people who don't tinker) in an attempt to help I tend to infodump whenever someone announces they have bought one hehe

One of my more recent findings is that if you have had the luxury of a two post ramp, don't start up the car until you have it sat on the ground again... The suspension defaults to FULL VIP SLAM MODE if started in the air, which makes it rather awkward to get off the ramp. If you DO find yourself in that position, cycling the suspension modes with the engine running for 10 minutes seems to resolve it.

Thanks. I ran an OBD code read today and flattened the battery. Must need a new one anyway so will get that sorted.

He is the Fortnum and Masons of Merc Indies, caters mostly to the Pagoda crowd sans Richmond.

He did a few things on my mushroom soup 129 when I got it and performed an open wallet bypass procedure on me, good but expensive. I think the vendor got off fairly lightly.

I sold my 124 to my "man" recently when it, whilst still functioning, hit up against a circa £10k bill to get it "right"

Got the C63 for not much more than that thing was going to cost.

Go figure

Also might have a battery drain issue. Will look in to it.

Just found the issue. It was the door jamb sensor.

It didn't realise I had left the car so kept all of the electronics on I think.

After letting everything settle the car started and I took it for a 30min drive. On that drive it made me wonder, when it comes to the point where my girlfriend moves in with me, what's going to happen when I ask her to pause Baby Reindeer or whatever is on Netflix because I've had an idea.

Then I walk out to my car, poke around a bit, start the car then drive away.

She's going to go mental at me.

Well done with the car.

Good luck with the girlfriend.
A little trust, consideration and mutual respect goes a long way.
Without it you are doomed.

So do her the courtesy of telling her what you are doing, rather than telling her to put her life on hold while you fiddle with the car.
Then you can still go on your drive while she watches the rest of Baby Reindeer - I mean, did you actually want to watch it, or had she got a vice like grip on the remote as usual?

Ah, so Richmond inflation.

This guy always seems to present lovely motors.

Any old Merc would swallow a five-figure bill if one so wished. I've never heard of Colin Thingy but it sounds as though his charging reflects the pockets of the local owners.
