A simple, fast and throaty V8, V10 or V12...?
Discussion
Hello Forum,
I'm looking for a second fun car to love and look after - that will be simple, fast and throaty
I'm after a V8, V10 or V12 that has plenty of grunt but is not with the complexity, cost or refinement of an Audi R8 etc.
Something that sounds wonderful and is a joy to start up!
I've looked at:
TVR Griffiths (nice!)
Mustangs (hmmm - only like the 1969/70 models and they are too rare and a bit big)
Dodge Viper's (too big and pricey and a bit ugly in my humble opinion)
AC Cobras (way too pricey, and, the replicas are hmmm)
and so on....
I love Caterham 7's but, they seem only to be in 2.0 Litre 4's
Any ideas would be delightfully researched!
Thanks everyone

Ariel Atom V8?
No idea of cost or availability though
I love Pistonheads - guy asks what car and first reply is probably the least practical car on the road. And costs ~£100k :lol:No idea of cost or availability though
E92 M3. I am getting to become a broken record but they are all you need and in my 18 months of ownership, she owes me very little
A Monaro would seem to fit the bill on the simplicity and refinement front.
Not mine, but a good example of the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htvTzFx2zuU
They are quite big though.

Terrific replies so far - thank you very much everyone
Regarding what to spend - I'm in two minds...
In an ideal world, I'd like something I could pick up for less than £12000 and lavish love on for the rest of my life - but - that's not a reality I guess? Plus, a decent V8, V10, V12 isn't going to be begging for that sort of cash is it....?
In the real world, it may have to be a replacement for my everyday car (allowing a bigger budget): the M3 is delicious, but, that would end up being a daily commute car.
I adore the Atom - but a V8 atom is silly money and still just a track tool as far as I can see (I live in the country - I'd not get it down the lanes safely.....)
The Corvette and Viper are very looong cars and don't really have that 'quality' feel - I know quality is not quite the correct term - but, if you compare the look and 'feeling' I get when I gaze on a TVR Griffith 500 v a Corvette/Viper/Monaro- perhaps that comparison makes it clear?
The Monaro does sound rather delicious - then, to me, all V8s do
I've looked at the RS6 (as I had an S4 4.2 V8 which was beautiful), again, a lovely engine and an option if it has to be a daily commute car...
The Westfield V8 is great (however, I'd like a car with a roof unless it is a second car)
All wonderful suggestions so far - will anything else emerge I wonder....?
Thanks again everyone
