After buying an '03 M12 GTO 3, I have been amazed with the car, I have had it Five weeks now and 4 of these it has spent back at the garage!! I have come from owning a TVR Tuscan and had 4 years trouble free motoring from the car!!! I know that sounds hard to believe but its true.

After using all my equity to buy the Noble so far it has had a gear box!!! due to diff failure and I am now being told because it is not running right that it has the old ECU and I am liable to pay for this!!! this to me is B*&$£$it, the car will not idle at all and therefore cannot be setup properly, Surely this is a recall to the factory to have this resolved. I am sooo pissed off I am seriously thinking of buying a TVR again as the factory are far more helpful than these jokers it seems. Has anyone else had similar issues, surley they cant possibly sell you a car with something they know dosen't work and is so bad the car can't even idle correctly.!!!!!!

Yours VERY Angrily

Did you buy it from a dealer or privately?

The car was bought from a well known specialist in scotland but not a Noble dealer, Alan has been great and is trying to sort things out for me but this is a generic fault with all these machines made with this ECU and they SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!!!!!!

David,

Obviously very sorry to hear about your problems with the car - I understand that MV Turbos are working on the idle problem and are close to resolving things for you.

However, you say that the car is an '03 GTO-3, but it cannot be if it is fitted with the Magnetti Marelli ECU. These ECU's were only fitted to early-model M12 GTOs, not GTO-3s. Considering that the 2.5-litre GTO model was only produced during 2001 and 2002, the car you own must be a lot older than you say. All 3.0-litre cars had the later MBE Systems ECU, which we still use today and is perfectly reliable.

We acknowledge that the 5-speed gearbox fitted to the GTO and most GTO-3s is not as strong as the current 6-speed unit, but bear in mind that its wear-rate will accelerate dramatically if the car has been tracked.

The date on my V5 states the car is 19/03/2003!!!!

The car has never been tracked as far as I know, there is no stonechips to the frontend of the car and I was assured this when I bought the car, the car is in perfect condition and deffinatley hasn't had a hard time. I realise the problem the factory has but to come from something so good that I had to a complete nightmare is difficult to take.

I do love the car the way it drives the quality of the build I do not have any issues with but the service MV Turbos have had and the service I have had I feel let down very badly!!

Regardless of the date all 3 litre cars have the MBE ecu, are you sure your car has the older ecu?

Hi Simon,

If all, or the majority of 2001/02 GTOs, have the Magnetti Marelli ECU fault, shouldn't you (ie Noble) design a low cost fix, or replace the ECU foc? I appreciate that Magnetti going bust is not your fault, but it's not good that you expect your customers to pay out circa £4500 to have their two/three old, probably low mileage, Noble repaired/ECU updated. Unlike a gearbox, you can't argue that an ECU could fail due to track/hard driving.

When this story gets out into wider circles, your lack of customer care is presumably going to effect Noble residual values?

For the record, what a fabulous car the Noble M12 is!!!! I love it.

So Nobles are not suitable for trackdays then?

"your lack of customer care"

Feel free to look at the rest of the posts in this section which contradict that statement somewhat. Noble's customer service is the best I have received from any company for any product.

As for not being suitable for trackdays - I'm sure all simon said was that track use accelerates wear on the cars, not that you shouldn't use them on track. Each track mile is equivilent to about 100 road miles. You'll find Noble are unique in providing a warrenty for the car even when it is used on track (even caterham don't).

I have to agree with Nathan, I have always found the support and phone service excellent. Maybe we're spoilt by being close to the factory.

I seem to remember a couple of other very unhappy Scottish customers posting here?

wasn't there a whole host of moaning about april time?

For the record, my dealings with Bob in Service; the receptionist, the parts man and the test driver (sorry I can't remember their names) have all been brilliant and the service I received excellent. I can throughly recommend Noble. I even met and talked with Lee Noble himself on a couple of occassions.

My post above is a "rallying cry", come on Noble sort this ECU problem! The M12 is so close to greatness .... etc. I really do love my car.

If you don't sort this problem, you'll get a reputation for poor service/unreliability; second hand price will drop; which means people will hesitate buying new.

David,

I've a feeling that the non-franchised dealer you bought this car from has not given you the full story.

Going on the VIN number I've been given by MV Turbos, your car was first registered on 19.03.02 and has a 2.5-litre engine fitted, making it a GTO, rather than a GTO-3.

On 12.04.02, the car was returned to the factory for its first service, where it had an engine power upgrade. This - as it states very clearly on the invoice - invalidated the warranty on the engine and gearbox.

We know for a fact that the original owner was a big fan of track days and frequently drove the car at such events.

A/ This means your car is at least one year older than you believe it to be;

B/ It is a different model to what you believe it to be;

C/ It received a power upgrade at 1000 miles and was frequently tracked, meaning hugely accelerated wear on the engine and 'box. Perhaps it's no suprise that it failed...

I understand that the gearbox has now been repaired, not replaced, and that MV have sorted the idle problem.

Another issue delt with - well done Simon.

This is what I love about Noble. The 1-1 customer relationship.

Anyone who doubts Noble's "customer care" must read this forum with their eyes shut!

David,

Unlucky!. Best start dialog with the garage. Sounds like you are not being told the whole truth. Taking a guess, you may stand in good stead legally.

Without naming names....Which part of Scotland am I best avoiding for used car sales?

OK, I may be young(ish!) and naive but surely there's just some kind of clerical error here?! Are you sure you've got the right VIN ?

If all the info on this thread is 'true' then David has either mis-read his V5 (sorry David i'm sure you haven't!) or there's been some kind of quite serious fraud and David has been badly ripped off ?

Very true - I've only just noticed that the date that David mentioned is identical, but for the year. More than coincidence...

Well, now this starts to make sense - what with some of the issues I've experienced with my "new" M12 I must check my V5 to see if it is in fact, a Jensen Healey (I was too young to purchase one of these gems when new in the 1970's but some of you senior Nobility will know where I'm going with this!) LOL :-)

PS - not intending to suggest that l6nex's situation isn't most concerning/intreaguing just having a mad humorous minute here!!!
