KITCAR DESIGN sketches/concepts year 2008-10
Discussion
Neil, whoooaaa, I saw the Murtaya movies you have up on YouTube, damn that sounds nice. Please do a fast-back man, it would look like an evil combination of a T350 and a baby Viper. Very nice work. Is a fast back planned? Would one of the artistic types do a mock up and post it . This is about future designs after all and that doesn't have to mean totally new designs
You know, I am biased towards V8's, probably because I have owned them and they give something that the fast and light brigade cannot - road presence and low speed cruising. I know that fast and light is fun when absolutely hammering the crap out of your car, but I am honestly not into that all the time. There are times when low speed cruising through some country lanes on a warm summer evening with a V8 burbling away is just priceless. Also the fuel economy point about V8's is a bit misleading because if you drive your ricer hard, they drink harder than anything I have seen. My mate's tuned EVO 5 does about 6 mpg when given beans!
A question about 2+2 seaters, are there safety issues with back seats in a Kit car? I suppose not, but would there be more difficult testing requirements? It's just like this nanny state to say that back seats = children AND WE MUST PROTECT THE CHILDREN!!!
Just to be clear, practical is good and IMO required for the kit car market going forward.

[quote=fuoriserie]The biggest unexploited niche is the rear wheel drive four seater. That is the main reason I suggested trying to start with an Elan plus 2 and trying to change the design just enough to stand on its own and distance itself from the spyder conversion while still being able to use some common parts like glass and doors.
.
.
This is an interesting niche, will see if i can work out something............but how about a Shooting break!!!, I've always liked the Scimitar GTE, and why not a modern take on this design.........

Ok, Neil, very nice motor but this is just stupid (I assume this is not you / AMS):
how much
Lets see, I could buy 2 x 400bhp TVR Sagaris and get a second hand A2B shitbox for 81K, and that includes build cost.
<If that link doesn't work, wwww.murtaya.net is offering a 400bhp murtaya for 81K>
Amazed - the older advertising material said something along the lines of build yourself OTR for 15K! bit of a price jump hey.

Neil will add his two cents when he sees this, but let me assure you, that site is for a different market; those are Murtayas built on brand new cars (rather than donors) among other things. You wouldn't pay near that in Europe or the US. My Murtaya could be considered one of the higher specs, and it is considerably less than even the cheapest spec on Murtaya.net.

We're a little further along with the Veeteor's bodywork now, having decided upon Fiat Grande Punto headlights, not a bad fit in the end, need a bit more work yet to blend them in perfectly, and the hump behind the front wheel will go, a straighter edge will work better. The nose is reminicent of a Maserati MC12 as a result of the lights and grille opening I think, and it's the best part right now. The rear body work is working well, humps hiding the rear suspension and adding some height to the rear and balancing the shape out nicely. Real lights were going to be Fiat Brava triple strip lights, but they just won't fit given the curved rear. Instead we'll do an inverse of Enzo tail lights, and hang three small lights below the rear spoiler, sort of half in the body and half out. Just can't wait to drive it....

Looking good, and the Grande punto lights blend perfectly in your design.

I did some sketching over the weekend , and will try to post a few rough sketches. when my scanner starts to work again....
I will be interested to see your sketches Italo, get the scanner sorted!
Zigs, as Mike pointed out there are lots of reasons behind different prices in different markets including basic specifications in the regions differing due to the types of needs and wants in particular parts of the world (ie touch screen sat nav and audio on all Middle East cars). There are also the shipping, duty and local regulations to take into account. To be truthful it is rather a minefield. The big money cars for the Middle East come with extremely high specifications all the way through and feature many competition specification parts including transmission, brakes and intercoolers. They are actually proving very popular due to the performance the vehicles offer along with the individuality built into each and every car to the owners spec. The buyers usually have all of the traditional exotica in their garage already.
As Mike also points out the majority of cars that we are selling in the UK and Europe as fully built vehicles are generally mid to late 20's with good mechanical specifications.
A self built project will realistically cost from around £17k to get on the road.
Neil.

Finally I got the images to work........a few very rough sketches on a Murtaya design update, just by redesigning the front bonnet only, and keeping the rest as is.
A new rear end restyling, but the basic car design is the same as the original Murtaya
