great looking car.
from some angles looks amazing, others not so much.. hate that some may confuse it with a tr7!but what i like most is the functional design.. A rally car is a cool thing to drive, unlike many sports cars where looks may be purely for aesthetics and without real function
i also like the integral cage and chassis design. it is even a bit practical
worried though that wheelbase is less than an elise, but with 220 bhp+
could be scary and twitchy on the limit
its also the impact with such car on the road, it has something 'special' you will not be the fastest or have the most elegant looking sports car, but its part of the fun so to say.
its also very known to most car nuts.
maybe its not 'pretty' for a lot people, but love makes blind in some cases I guess ;-)

The real deal isn't. Just read that in the Dutch version of Octane (no.1) about an original Stratos Stradale. The writer even made clear that that often repeated traith of the Stratos's handling was a myth. He also mentioned that it's quite light up front, which probably explains why it's not twitchy.
I owned two Hawk Stratos and an S1 Elise.
Even a correctly set up Stratos moves around more on straights, but the way it changes direction on twisty roads is where its strength lies.
The set up of the suspension and steering is critical on a Stratos.
It doesn't matter if it's a genuine Lancia Stratos or a kit replica, they're both adjustable and need to be correct.
Otherwise, they can be horrible.
A Stratos is quite a practical car though. The suspension has lots of travel and is quite compliant.
They have a big boot for luggage and can carry a spare wheel. The Elise has a lot less luggage space, and no spare wheel.

i like the idea of a sports car that u can use on many surfaces. can have fun on road, track, gravel, and wont be too bad around london speed bumps !They have a big boot for luggage and can carry a spare wheel. The Elise has a lot less luggage space, and no spare wheel.
but is it so easy to lose the rear , and hard to recover?

It's actually very difficult to loose the rear. Certainly not in the dry and at anything less than an idiotic speed for the public road.but is it so easy to lose the rear , and hard to recover?
At very fast road speeds, you'll much more likely loose the front with plough on understeer. If you throw the car into a tight bend and give it a fair bit of throttle, the front will totally wash out. It's all to do with weight transfer and the car's short wheelbase (compared to its track width). You learn to avoid this situation. A Stratos is great for that 'sling shot' out of the corner. It's best not to go into a corner too fast, especially if its a tight radius corner.
The reality is that you never get anywhere near the car's grip limits on the road. If the suspension and steering are set correctly, they're great fun to drive. The twistier the road, the better.
On the loose is a different thing, and here's some 'in car' from someone who hasn't forgotten how to drive a Stratos.

If you do eventually break traction at the rear mid corner, it is very had to hold that power slide. It's much more of a 'knife edge' thing than say a Mk2 Escort.these guys seem to be able to hold the slide midcorner pretty well! skill level is pretty high though.
ofcourse FR layout is easier for drifting, but the way the stratos chages direction is impressive
At 0:59 on that video, there's a white car that comes steaming into the corner with lock on, and nothing happening.
That's what I mean about the front washing out. You need to be ready for that, and the snap oversteer. The best drivers get the best out of them. I know that applies to everything, but more so with a Stratos. You can go very quickly without getting anywhere near these levels though.

Hi all, I have finally decided to ACTUALLY try and sell my CAE Corse Lancia Stratos Replica now.
It is finished in a dark metalic red which looks pretty close to the Lancia Winner red as used on the Integrale and S4/
It has a modified 12v Alfa 3.0 V6 running an Emerald K6 ecu with no cat.
I have been trying to talk myself out of selling it for the last 2 years, but have now decided that she must go to a new home.
I will be at the Castle Coombe Rally day this Saturday Sept 20th if anyone wants to see it in the flesh.
I will be listing it shortly on Piston Heads, the Stratos Enthusiasts site (SEC)but not ebay.
This is a high spec car correctly registered, on an age related 'G' plate. It is taxed and has a valid MOT until June 2015.
I have owned the car for the last 10 years and have had some great times and it has been very reliable and a lot of fun.
This is a well known car within the SEC and has attended many events and shows over the years as well as several magazine articles.
Please contact me if interested or come and see the car at Castle Coombe.
Formal advert should get place in the next couple of days.
Cheers
Tim
