Following on from what Mr Bell's saying, what about the possibility of using part of an exisiting body conversion e.g. say the Extreme 355 front with different door skins and compeletely different rear end treatment? A sort of hybrid replica!

This could be a very interesting idea for a new and updated design of the old 355, something to look into,

I dont have anything important to add - I just want to say to fuoriserie that almost all of his designs shown on Pistonheads over the last few months/years have been great. It's slightly upsetting to think that none of them will come to fruition.

I really like the idea of something slightly mid-engined+70's looking. Mangusta and Stratos' are awesome looking cars.

Despite me being quite conservative, and liking their looks for the most part originally I'd see no shame in driving a rebodied MR2/Mx5 if it looked right (and if i could fit in okay!).

Cheers, Greg.

Thanks for your comments, but this is a secret .....a few have shown interest and maybe we could see something in 2007????, but nothing yet, so let's stick with this new concept with great potential .

Any ideas you would like to see on the mr2 or mx5?

ZAGATO MR2- Mk.3 body conversion sketches.
The car conversion was a Japan only design, I don't thing it was one of their best designs, but it seems like the japanese liked it....

OK - i can't do the drawing thing so i have to to mock up via photoshop.

Apologies in advance then....

First, take your common or garden Extreme F335 replica like so:

Then restyle the front half of the nose...

Then restyle the rear - by pure luck we can actually get away with the ridiculous offsets as the original because the wide arse F355 kit requires 3/4 inch spacers which we simply ditch!

Finally - for the whole hog effect - graft on some front arches and the side skirt like so and you have the Detoyota Panter2!!

Ho-ho!

That looks really good !, I was going to show a similar sketch later in the day, but you would need to update it a little and move away from the original, just enough for the lawyers to pass you by......

Very good job !

Just noticed - the rear quarterlights would be impossible because of MR2 fixed points.

Revised version which works in theory:

Simplified version dropping the GTS arches:

Yes it does, you can still have the wheelarchess, but maybe with a different shape than classic Pantera.

I will use your image for my new sketch, just to see if my idea works.

Maybe a 944 would be a good candidate for rebody?

We better stick to a more affordable and worlwide car, the Porsche is a great car, but very limited and expensive.

The mr2 and mx5 make more sense for this project.

Hi

This is a great idea. Wanted to do this kind of thing when I left college but fell into running my own business and don't have the time.

Looking further ahead what are the options for getting the bodies made up? How much would it cost for moulds etc.?

Some great designs already...

Well, it's still at the rough sketching phase, so no thoughts have been made on the bodies and moulds, just trying to make them fit to the Mr2 with a pleasing design.

I'm sure that, if someone showed an interest ,the cost of noulds could be considered , but we are still sketching at the moment, and if you have ideas you want to develop, please join in .

Smash, has contributed with the Pantera design, and I think it could be a very nice rebody for the mr2., and moving away from all those ferrari clones......

I'm working on a new Mangusta inspired sketch........

I really like that! Just a hint of DB9 in the shape perhaps?

I'm not a big fan of most the MR2 body kits, mainly from technical aspects. However there are some very pretty MX5 kits such as the Retoforza.
