Hi all,

I got a hint that my TreeVee threewheeler had turned up in this forum and also saw the concern TheLastPost had about the well-being of my lower parts (when in the vehicle):

"I think I'd want a bit more between my bks and a speed hump than a GRP seat shell, too."

To comfort him, myself and others, I have now fitted an ass-protector!

Regards,

P-G

Very tasty hardware there!

Some comments:

Seems that front monoshock gives non-independent suspension.

Wouldn't a single front disc have same issue as power through a non-limited-slip differential?

As for monocoque, are you aware of Nida core?

http://nida-core.com/spanish/nidaprod_honey_h8pp.h...

It's a plastic honeycomb core filth fabric facings on top of which you apply your preferred fabric face sheets.

It can be deformed it into complex curvatures so can be both structure and body.

I intend to use it on the trike I'll build.
Interesting product but the link is broken, is there a website ?

Thanks

Appears that Nida-Core was bought by 3M and then shut down.

Says one guy:

"Meh, it was all overpriced and overrated anyway.

There's still Seacast and Coosaboard."

That looks very similar to a rendering on one of the thread on here, think it was by a guy looking to go into production in eastern europe I think. Front end looks like a nobel M600 if you squint quite a bit :-)

Wouldn't it be fantastic if it actually gets built in numbers. It ought to be possible with the modern superfrugal 3 cylinder power plants around to hit 80mpg and 80mph in an ultralight three wheeler. Sadly I suspect meeting the passenger safety cell requirements, rollover protection etc etc will be the killer in this. I just cannot personally see this happening. I sincerely hope it does. 60 years ago Berkeley with the three wheeler were betting pretty close. It should be happening now.

The website is very informative and is funny to see in print what we've discussed on this and other threads concerning a future lowcost modern threewheelr project.

I can't figure out yet the engine brand, but maybe it's an updated Geo Metro 3 cylinder engine(Suzuki 3 cylinder origin) used also in modified form in the Daewoo Matiz.

It does seem like a big time project having raised already 47 million dollars and potentially hiring 1500 workers in 2015...

I still like this though:

I agree entirely Italo, the VW is by far the most convincing of the two. Question must be why has no one built it in numbers. Problem is so many design concepts remain just that. I would love to see the latest offering in full production but 50 years of enjoying three wheelers has made me realistic about new offerings. I wish the project well but I am personally unconvinced that any volume production will follow.

A bit like this?

I did this between Abingdon and Milborne St Andrew (Oxford to Dorchester) and I did it again a few weeks later brimming the tank to be sure it wasn't a faulty trip computer. Only snag is that it was in my four wheeled Xsara Picasso

Excellent post qdos which really underlines how the technology in motoring has radically reduced fuel consumption in motoring. Brilliant results and this underlines my question on this topic. Berkeley were way ahead of their time with their three wheeler's (designed of course by the seriously underrated Lawrie Bond) which to this day 60 years later has IMO never really been equaled as a design let alone bettered.

Quite why this is I do not know. But it is a fact. With modern technology and lightweight materials there should be a range of vehicles bettering this result. I fact there is not one kit car equaling this level of achievement. First question must be why. Second question should be how can we achieve that. Food for thought.
