I fancied doing one of these but having gone to their website for details on the ford version have discovered they are not doing a kit version of it they tell me they are going to keep kits for the rover version going for a few months and honour any outstanding orders etc but after that the impression I get is they will be turn key only at about £40k

As far as I know, you will be able to buy the Rover based kits for some time yet, the Ford version will only be offered as a turnkey car via an agent (Studio G) due to the costs of obtaining all new mechanicals in order to register it as a new car.

There are now a lot of the features designed for the Ford car available to update the Rover kit such as projector lamps, new interior, spoiler, full central locking with integrated alarm, electric mirrors etc.

Mine has all of these bar the projector lamps which will be done later. Norman at Phantom will not say no to any suggestion if you push hard enough

Thanks nick but I still think they will stop producing the kit by the time I have enough money barring a lottery win(in which case I'll have an ultima) or an inheritance.

I can't say more than to just repeat what everyone else has already said. In my eyes that knocks the spots off almost anything else on the roads. Great colour choice. Pure class!

The complete kit works out at around 14K plus our VAT (17.5%), you would avoid that if exporting. I think there would be no problem in just specifying a body/chassis as each module is priced separately anyway. As to getting it to the USA, I can't see a problem apart from the size making it not too cheap. As the engine is the Honda Legend one you should have available donors? unless of course you want to fit another set of mechanicals.

To answer your question Graham. the seats are from an 820 Vitesse (Recaro) and the centres have been done in Peacock blue Alcantara with GTR embroidered on them.

WOW, the kit is only 14k?!?! That is a nice car for that price, but i guess they are the same here too. I was thinking all ford the the hearty parts of the car. Does the phantom have good handling, or could i change it with a corvette's or such??

Although I have never tried one on track it should handle well as Phantm's backgroung is in racing rather than kits!

Although the kit is 14K in order to put together a nice car and to add air-con and a full leather interior you can look at around 25K all in. They already use the Ford Duratech 3ltr V6 and associated management systems/instruments in a turnkey version so it would be easy for you to specify a chassis with these mounts.

Hi mac,

Phantom were negotiating with a possible US agent but don't know how that panned out. As I'm currently waiting to try the latest Ford powered version Nick's mentioned I'll try to find out next time I speak to them.

Regarding the handling, the car's designer Chris Greville Smith has previously designed a number of championship winning race cars, and yes, it does handle well.

The Honda Legend was basically the same car as the Rover 2.7 up until about 1989/90 when the Legend got a 3.2l engine. Unfortunatly the whole engine and gearbox was also turned through 90 degrees becoming longitudinal instead of transverse but still front wheel drive. Also the Legend 3.2l engine (and later 3.5l) are totaly different to the 2.7l so they wont match up to the Rover transverse gearbox without lots of modification.
On the other hand the block of the 3.0l and 3.2l NSX engines are exactly the same as the Rover block (apart from the liners) so if you can find one of them mechanicaly they are a direct swop.

Have checked this out with Phantom, and a prosepective US agent established in the auto trade is due to come over for a second visit before the end of the month, so it looks promising.

They're specially made for the car. Suspect Phantom might be willing to sell a set next time they place an order though.

Nick,

What windshield (windscreen) does the Phantom use? I saw on their site that it uses Celica door glass and custom side and rear glass.

Is it available in the US?

Hi Bill
The windscreen (shield ) is bespoke and aboutthe only part that I know they have plenty of!

Car is not available in the US as yet despite plans for left hand drive many moons ago. Production has pretty much ground to a halt at the moment pending some new orders.
